I definetly see it declining unless someone like Danielson or Landis or some other American-in-Europe starts winning some of the big races. What I really think will cause the slide is the lack of TV coverage that will undoubtedly come when Lance drops off the radar. Think of the lack of viewers OLN will have when there is no Major american headliner appearing in the Tour. And that's if they stick around with the kind of coverage they have now. Who else remembers the 30 minutes blurbs of the day's stage on ESPN? I can't go back to those days. I won't >
And if the slump happens, it won't be that bad. A lot of people have discovered biking thanks to lance, so the majority of them will stick around.
All until we get another Cyclist-via-heroic-story.

Just to thow this out there to chew on: The rising price of fuel may help keep cycling popular to a degree. I pay $2.08 and that is one of the lower prices in the USA.
