Evelyn Stevens sets new hour record mark, misses Longo’s all-time record

Evelyn Stevens rode 47.980km in a near perfect hour under the dome in Colorado Springs to topple Bridie O’Donnell’s current women’s world hour record by over a kilometer.

The two-time U.S. national time trial champion missed the all-time mark set by Jeannie Longo in 1996, who used “superman” position, by less than 200 meters, but now holds the official UCI hour record.

Maybe she'll show up to the Modesto rr again this year, I'll congratulate her.

I do wonder how much the venue helped.

I'm sure it did help but thats almost always considered for record attempts like this. HIgher altitudes, temperature control in the venue, humidity, etc.

1.5 kph for altitude, not sure how much for using 333m vs 250m. She was veering inward during the last few laps, which suggests that fatigue was affecting form; so a 250m track would have been worse. Concrete track is slightly worse for Crr, but it won't be higher than 0.003 regardless. And even then, at 65 kg bike + rider, it won't have that great an impact.

Still an impressive record given that Longo did it a) in an more aero position and b) most likely with the help of PED

Center of mass travels less distance on a 250 though, which helps if the rider is good at riding the track. 333 vs 250 is a little complicated, especially because most of the really fast tracks are 250.

Meh, Wiggins didnt beat Boardman's record either. Good for her, I hope her record stands for a while.

I'm SURE she has wind tunnel data helping her but I still have this feeling that she'd break her own record with a no-tail helmet.

Maybe. She's limited to sponsor correct gear though, since she pitched it to her team as an opportunity for tt improvement/optimization.
