E' un gran bel Giro
And I am sad that it is (almost) over.
A couple of things from the morning's pre-stage show:
Di Luca will be tailoring his training after the season to Giro 89.
Rujano, whose hero was Pantani, donated 10.000 EUR - his prize money for the green jersey? - to the Marco Pantani Foundation. Now I want to see him next to Magnus Backstedt, who weighs exactly twice what he does.
Savoldelli, when asked how he surmounted the previous two years of terrible health, he said "I just rode, life is like that."
When I lived in Vicenza in 1958, I could never dream how much cycling, cycle racing, and what goes with it would mean to me.
Ciao tutti!

I'm reflecting on the fact that I had no cable or internet for the majority of the Giro. I'm also reflecting on the fact that this is the first year since 2001 that I've missed going to the Giro. I'm also reaffirming that I will not miss another Giro again.... I'll be going to Italy from now on. It's too much torture to be watching from afar.

P.S. Vicenza is just beautiful...
re cycling and Vicenza, I of course had no idea that a company of which I would be very supportive in much later years was there. And somewhat under duress I actually saw the 1958 Giro as it passed through town. I have a single Kodachrome, taken from a fourth floor hotel window, of that event.
48kg! Backstedt probably craps bigger than that.

He is supposedly 49 Kg, just half of Magnus' 98. He is a little shorter too.

Nope - they are in Parma mainly.
Where is the photo you posted from? Is that the Duomo, by the Piazza dei Signori?
How do you come to know Vicenza?
