We are moving into a new office building next month. I am currently in a "cube," but I have my choice of a shared office or individual cube in the new building.

(I put cube in quotes because my current work environment is not a cube in the traditional sense. Rather, I am in a strange corner that is about 8 feet wide and 12 feet long with exterior windows on one long side and a short end, a wall on one long end and then just an open wall on the other short end. I don't share any temporary walls with anyone, and it's more like an office without a fourth wall, but I digress.)

At first, taking the office seemed like a no brainer, but then I started thinking about it more, and now I'm not so sure. I would be sharing the office with one of two people, both of whom are women in their mid-20s. I'm not sure how much I would have in common with either. Both are very new here, so I also don't know them well enough to know whether I would enjoy sharing an office with them. In fact, one hasn't officially started yet. I've only met her in her interview.

I am starting to think taking the individual cube might be the smarter play.

Thoughts?

Cube all the way. I wouldn't want to share an office with my best friend even. I'd open a vain if I had to spend any lengthy time with a couple of women in their 20's. I'm sure they're nice young ladies, but for the most part, there are very few women under 35 who aren't essentially twitter accounts with lipstick.

Cube, no brainer.

The pretty rough sexism here aside, I agree with the cube. It's not even close for me. The only time I would consider it is one or two people I REALLY liked, and we were constantly working on the same things and talking over the cube walls anyway.

Some privacy from everyone > more privacy from most but much, much less from a couple.

I share an office; but only on Mondays. I get along with the guy, he talks nonstop about his exploits from the 1960's all the time, in fact I've heard most of them several times. Sometimes I'll tell him one of his stories and change the places and names which totally confuses him.

Anyway, I'd get the cubicle if there's a door, office otherwise. I'd hate a cube cus everyone would see me on the 33.

One time my boss caught me looking at my power curve in Cycling Analytics, he asked what it was and I told him, 'Just looking at some statistics and trying to see where we can improve on things.'

I went from mid sized cube, to small cube, go shared office on the last 7 months. Luckily I share a lot in common with my office mate (a mid 20s female). She is into non-competitive body building, so I like hearing about how much better they have a grasp on the human bosy than us cyclists. We have a wall between our computer screens, which helps. Only thing I dislike is everything I get up, I have walk by the boss's office to do anything, which is annoying.

I've got more space and have room for a huge whiteboard, so definitely the office is what I would choose.

4 managers back we had a boss we called Krusty the Clown. He ended up moving in with one of the women in the office, (at her house), and they also shared a small office space. After a few months she tossed him out of the house which made for a very awkward work scene.
They would argue loudly at work and whenever I went in to see him she would get all flirty and touchy with me, just to piss him off.
Eventually the owner put them in different offices and then he got fired. Weird times.

Let's keep it civil please. Rather than make personal attacks I would encourage you two to use the Report Post function.

In other news it looks like we may get our first rain of the season in SoCal this week. Doesn't bode well with my big training week, but we need it and I can appreciate it. Rivers are low and trails are dusty; just got off the MTB.

@wktmeow and I are on the same cycling team and annual training camp is this weekend in Borrego Springs. Big rides up into the mountains and all that, sag wagon, dinner and debriefings and intros at night at the resort, so pro. It's a big event that draws the 4/5 team, 3 team, 1/2 team and corresponding womens teams. Even some older racers from yesteryear and general club affiliates. Looking forward to it.

Are you making it out this year Matt? It's one of the highlights of the year for me, and it's not even a race!

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday, can't make it for Friday sadly, but better than nothing. Looking forward to it, and hoping to have good legs so I can flex on the new guys a bit

Interview tomorrow with a local staffing agency. This is for an internal accounting job within the agency and not with an outside company that is working with them...meeting with the CFO..

I REALLY need this to go well.

Anyone ever fly with a trainer? Looking for ideas about how to pack it, without having the box it came in. It's a Fluid2, so I'm not worried about beating up a smart trainer.

Related, I'll be in Salt Lake City Feb ~20-25th if anyone has ideas/tips for riding there. I assume it will be cold and snowy, hence the above question about flying with a trainer.
