Any of you racers plan to do any cyclocross this fall and winter? I've never done it before...but I'd like to try it? Of course as the days get shorter in the fall....I'd have to do most of my biking on the turbo trainer. Perhaps some running would be good training for cross too. It would be a very fun way to keep/gain fitness through the winter.

I need a cross bike!

It sure looks fun!...and challenging as hell. I heard Lance say once that in road cycling you die a slow death...but in cross you die fast..and you stay dead! Lance has been known to show up for a few cross races in the recent years.

I think I'm gonna do it!

I did a couple of CX races last winter on my commuter, and plan to get a CX bike this winter. It's true. It's way different from road. I was pretty much anaerobic the whole time... there's no sitting in. One guy pretty accurately describes it as a punch in the gut. And, it's pretty cool in it's own right with the various obstacles, etc. The other thing is that there's a big technique component. I'm definitely gonna have to spend some time working on that.

So, fer sure, grab a mtn. bike or whatever you got, start at the back, try a race or two, and go from there!

Cyclocross is what you have to do in hell for eternity if you're bad on earth.

Incredibly hard sport.

Just curious. Why not do this in the cyclocross section?

Plenty of answers there.

Beats riding a trainer but get ready to suffer. Technique can make or break you so spend some time working on it. Do a little running to deal with the runups.
Go to Adam Myerson's website, cycle-smart.com, to get some hints on training and other info. I think he also sells a DVD on training. Finally, if you get a chance, check out "Pure Sweet Hell".
