Ullrich, Basso, Mayo, Leipheimer or Botero. One of those guys, or maybe some as of yet unknown super talent (like Ullrich was in '96).

I think the T-Mobile team is the strongest by far (Ulrich, Vino, etc.) followed by CSC (Basso, Julich, etc). So, I think the TDF ends with one of these guys winning and placing 2nd/3rd. I think that if Lance can't win (is down a lot early on or midway) then he will drop with an 'injury' or 'sickness'.

I'd have a hard time getting "up" if Sheryl Crow left me too.

If not Lance, then Ullrich or Basso.

No chance, but I'm pulling for Landis and Team Phonak, myself.
Floyd's effort at the TdG made him my sentimental favourite.

Don't forget about Vino! I don't expect alot of loyalty from him(to Ullrich). He's set to leave T-Mobile..and he wants to win the Tour.

I'm beginning to think that Jan was playing a little possum at Tour de Suisse. He may be better than we think this year. I've never seen him look so fit and lean! Perhaps Lance has been right all along for fearing him the most...in spite of his prior disappointing performances.

I read that Cheryl was with Lance at the Dauphine'. I'm not so sure they are no longer an item. O.K....I'll get a life!(te he)

Who would know the competition better? Don't you know who to watch out for in your own local races? Well it's the same way with these pros who race against eachother all the time. Lance says it's Jan so you gotta figure he is right so I say Jan wins it if Lance can't do it.

Well, if Lance falters, gets sick, or has an accident, he has a couple of team mates who are capable of winning. Ullrich has two team mates who SAY "I'm riding only to help Jan win". But, if Ullrich has problems, those same team mates might ride away...for the "good of the team" of course.

If the best cyclist in the world thinks Ullrich is his biggest threat, then I'm listening to him. The problem is that outside of the Germans, nobody want Jan to win. He was holding back at the Tour de Suisse, because he is putting everything into the TDF. He has said, if he doesn't win this year then he will consider himself a failure. Also, look at his body weight compared to last year along with arguably the strongest team.

First of all, I want Jan to win. As do many on this forum. Secondly, assuming your assertion is correct (which it clearly isn't), how would that be a problem?

Jan was in very good to great shape last year and got sick. I think he gets a bad rap because he is less driven then LA...as are all the other riders. He was in very good shape when he rode for Bianchi. He was in great shape the year he won it. It may be that he just achieved his first win a little too early to develop the last little toughness and commitment needed to beat LA. I hope he wins this year although there are a few riders I would like to see do well. LA,Landis,Levi, Evans. I just want to see LA put under a lot of pressure from many riders, if he wins I wanna see him or anyone suffer to win and fight

Yeah, I totally forgot about Vino. He's really increased his climbing ability this year (witness Ventoux), and that's a scary thing. When he's on he's ON, but so are Jan and Lance. When Jan's on I think he's just a little bit better than Lance - everywhere but the Tour anyways. I'm hoping he can finally beat Lance this year. If I were religious I'd probably pray for it to happen every night.

I think it's a bit of a toss up, besides Ullrich. Could be a few big suprises finishing very well. Ullrich would be my guess on the winner, second to Armstrong. He could have a bad day or two early and still make up for it. It really depends on the weather in the mountains.

vino, to me, is a very hungry rider. he's got the guts i think, just not the complete package yet. i admire his ability to attack and even contend sprints. the guy is a monster when he gets agressive. one of my favorite riders.

Other possibilities that I don't think were already mentioned: Altor Gonzales, Thomas Voekler, Alessandro Petacchi, Christophe Moreau, Roberto Heras, Gilberto Simoni?

Petacchi is not a grand tour GC contender. Plus he is not riding this TDF. Simoni's not riding it either. Moreau is a perennial letdown and Heras doesn't have the TT skills to take the overall.
