Major Taylor Race in Michigan

Are any of you doing this race? It is being held in Grand Blanc Michigan (my current stomping grounds) and is on July 24th. If so what cat. are you riding in?

I, for one, will be doing this race (can't let my home fans down) and I can't wait. BTW I'll be riding in the scary cat. 5 group.

I will be going to watch the race. Does that count? Do you race a lot throughout the year? I live in the area, but I don't get to ride enough to be in racing condition. Where do you do most of your training? I can't find a route that I like. I get most of my miles in on the weekends up north.

I ride Dixie highway alot because of the four lanes, but usually I ride around the holly area or the farm lands of clio and grand blanc. The motorists are horrible but I'm learning to turn the other cheek so to speak.

You've got a lot of places to race from Grand Blanc... the Rhino Races, the AAVC training races and rides, Windsor...if they're still doing Wednesday nights over at Gratten on the west side of the state, that's a really fun track as well.

Wasn't crazy about the organization at Grand Blanc last year. They had no USCF officials on site as they were about to start the races. Only a last minute save by an "off duty" official allowed the race to continue.
They had ONE official for SEVERAL fields on the course.
That's known as "A wing and a prayer". No way to run a bike race.
The GB police do a remarkable job considering they have riders scattered all over that very flat course.
Very flat course. Not a great final 200m area. AND they had CHIP TIMING instead of a camera. Bad use of technology.

Was told they made great changes to the event for 2005, so I'll give it another chance, but I'll also lead a last minute boycott if they can't ensure rider safety.

Did they change the route? WHen I looked at the route it seems like a rolling course but I may have distorted view of "flat" and "rolling". I believe chip timing is being used again though.

Where are the Rhino races???

I stand corrected... drove the course first and it's relatively flat.... Roads suck though.

Michigan. Roads suck. Um, that's redundant.

We design cars here. Then we trash them on our roads.

(Don't get me started on dedicated road millages.)
