First crit today.

I'm riding in the Tour De Burg today in downtown Miamisburg, OH. It's a 1 mile loop with 5 lefts and a right. Great day for my first non-multisport event, since it is suppsed to be a high of 93* and humid. I have numerous triathlons under my belt, which I'm always in the top 20. I think today will be pretty humbling. My goal is to not get taken out(crashes or by the organizer) and to finish in the pack.

We'll see.

We started with a field of about 50. 7 of us from our team. 4 guys that are experienced and 3 at their first race. It took me a lap or two to settle in because I started in the back and was getting pushed around by really squirrley guys, so I dropped back a bit instead of crashing. About 5 laps in, there were 2 definitive groups. I held on about 10th place in the first group and even contested a prime and got 3 or 4th. I got the jump a bit late on the sprint. There were two guys from our team sitting about 6th and I was right behind them for the rest of the race. When the 3 lap left signal hit, we stepped it up and tried to break but couldn't. By that time, I was spent due to the heat. Being a triathlete didn't help either. I'm not used to those paces yet. We agreed that I would try to lead out on the last corner then block for the other two. It worked out pretty well and they took 1 and 2. I ended up right off the back of the lead pack in 20th. It was a flat and fast course. My average ended up around 23.5 mph, with my max at 32. I just wanted to finish with the pack, so I was happy. I now need to gear my training away from tri's and into cycle only events.

All in all it was a good day. Our team had a good showing in all races too.
