TT Tires
Yes, I posted almost this same exact gripe last year.
What kind of tires are these guys using in the TTs? I'm guessing they're some kind of featherweight, super narrow configuration. The benefit is, perhaps, a couple of fractions of a second at the finish. (After all, any weight benefit is most pronounced during accelerations... how much of a factor is that during a TT?) The downside is probably 20 seconds, minimum, but likely even more, when they flat. CSC-Tiscali seems to be particularly snakebit (pun intended) this year, first in the stage 4 TTT, then again yesterday during Tyler's ride. It looks like it would be worthwhile to bite the bullet and increase the odds that your tires would survive the (relatively short) distance. |
I'm not sure what tyre exactly but CSC are riding Hutchinson,
who I would be absolutely screaming bloody murder at. CSC have had 3 flats (at least) that kept them out of the Maillot Jaune. I believe that LA is also using Hutchinson, but I'm pretty sure he's riding tubulars, not sure about CSC, can't find anything about it. Marty |
Well... last year it was USPS who were having so much grief with flats. They, too, were on Hutchinsons. Hmmm.
