Au Revoir JaJa
Laurent Jalabert (aka JaJa) has announced
that he will retire at the end of the season.
Unlike Cipo I tend to believe this one.
Personally I will hate to see him go, although
not the best out there he always was most
combative, and made any race he entered
interesting.

I'll miss JaJa a lot. He has a quality that the best French riders have, and which is all-too-rare in the peloton, he has elan. He has done it all, from sprints to climbs, and he always seemed to have a passion for the sport that never became the mechanical, clockwork efficiency of an Indurain. JaJa won and lost, but he always looks good doing either.
My favourite JaJa moment was when he attacked at the base of the Mur de Huy in the last kilometres of the 1997 Fleche Wallonne. Luc Leblanc was left shaking his head at that display of strength and -- let's face it -- style.
JaJa is one of the last of the true rouleurs.

He had such a great tour last year- too bad he's had such sucky luck this year. Jaja is a class act and a huge fave among the french and the danes. He'll make a great DS in the future.

A class act, and went out the right way.
I have a few pix of the Ventoux stage, and the Vaison stage, on my site. One - in Aubignan - is one "fan's" tribute.
Cheers...Gary
