Tour of Calif. Thousand Oaks pix- Stage 6

Hi all,

Just returned from my stint as a volunteer. After spending time at the Expo, I watched the race on the giant screen TV they had for the crowd. It was great to see the pros on our local roads!

They finished the stage with 3 laps around Amgen. I staked out a spot at one of the turns. These guys fly! I was amazed that as the peloton went by it sent out enough breeze to pull my cap right off my head. Each lap someone else was in the lead.

Once the race finished, I was also suprised to see how approachable the racers were, even handing someone one of their water bottles. I asked one of the (not winning) team members how it was out there and he replied "Man, I was nothing but a spectator on this one!"

Here are the pix.

It was pretty awesome...those guys blast by quick. It was good that they came around for another 3 laps.

My friends and I didn't really know what was going on while we waited alongside the route and I almost had a heart attack when all the racers came in the other street. We thought we had missed the whole thing!

Loved the whole event. Wish I had got to a better spot to watch the awards, but I really didn't have a clue what was going on. Had to watch from the side. George Hincapie brushed past me trying to escape from the crowds.

My only suggestion would be to advertise the event more. Outside of Bikeforums and Simi Star covering it the day before the event, I didn't notice anything that indicated there was a race coming up. None of my cycling buddies at school knew about it either.
