How long did it take for USCF to approve your 5-4 upgrade?

I submitted my request last Monday...it's now Sunday night. Not a word back from USCF yet.

Is this normal? I don't want to send an email out to bug the upgrade official and risk them becoming annoyed with me and disapproving my upgrade.

I'd give them at least a couple weeks. It really depends on your official though.

Are you requesting an early upgrade or did you complete the requirements?

I'm requesting an upgrade after 7 USCF races. 4 RRs and 3 Crits. One win, three top 10s and only one finish (first race) out of the top 20 (21st). I'm itchy to register for Tour de Moore in two weeks, and you need to be a CAT4 to participate...otherwise, I'd be more patient

Two MTB races, 9th and a 19th (mechanical failure, I turned the bike into a single-speed and still didn't come in last...), a triathlon with 15th/162 on the bike leg and a duathlon, 3rd/16 on the bike leg.

MIne was approved the same day. I sent it out before work and when I came home I got the email saying all good then about 2 days later I was applying the sticker.

Had you completed 10 races, or did you request an early upgrade?

Going from 5 to 4 I only had 6 races, but I had taken a skills clinic that counted as 5 races.
I submitted my request on Saturday evening and received an e-mail confirmation of my upgrade within 2 hours, and got the sticker in the mail on the following Tuesday.

I just submitted my Cat 4 to Cat 3 upgrade yesterday, and I really hope I get confirmation before next Saturday's race. One potential problem is that 3 of the races where I finished in the top 3 have not yet posted results on line, and one of them was 4 weeks ago!

Good luck on getting your upgrade soon!

I had 8 races and was mid pack in them all I was thinking by making the jump to cat 4 and longer races I would be better off since I seem to do better the longer and harder the race. Now I wish I stayed in the 5's....

I am about to apply for an upgrade to 4 as well. Do you see a big upgrade jumping up to 4s? Also this question goes to anyone: Are collegiate mass start races accepted?

When I upgraded in march of last year for my cat4 it took all of 15minutes. No exageration at all. The Official must have been doing upgrades during that time of day.

What's up with the races in northern cal? Very few of mine have been posted to usacycling.org (although final results were posted at the event) - Some back from february aren't on-line yet either.

It only took me 1 day to get mine declined. 8 mass starts. 2 crit wins in collegiate B, 1 crit win in 4/5's, 2 RR top 3's, 3 collegiate A top 10's (1 crit 2 RR).

Annoying to say the least... I'm just hoping I can use some of these points to upgrade from 4-3...I'm not quite sure how it works.

Mine took about 12 hours. I did have another rep e-mail my rep and recommend my upgrade though. I did seven races as a cat 5. I had one win, five top threes, one dnf due to a teammate being in a serious crash and one pack finish because of a teammate going on a solo breakaway.

Yes, on the USA Cycling.org site none of my races after Feb are listed yet (5 races). I don't understand why it takes so long considering they often have printed results within 30 minutes of the race. It shouldn't be that difficult to post them on-line.

By the way my Cat 4 to Cat 3 upgrade was approved this morning (submitted request on Saturday afternoon) and already shows up on USA Cycling.org, so I'm now a Cat 3 with zero points.

To answer adxm's question, it doesn't matter how you do as a Cat 5, you can't use the points earned as a 5 to upgrade from 4 to 3. Though it is possible that some local officials will make exceptions, so good luck!

Collegiate starts do count toward upgrade.

I got my 5-4 upgrade approved within a day.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. But that only makes sense to me if it was results from Cat 5 races. These are results from either 4/5 races or collegiate races that are certainly above Cat 5 level (above Cat 4 for that matter).

that's got to be a bummer. Was this for an upgrade from 5 to 4? If so, then I would have thought that coollegiate stuff would count, particularly when it is clear that you were doing well in them. Did they give a reason?

My guess would be, despite the impressive finishes, it is nonetheless short of 10 mass starts.

My request was approved very quickly. I sent it in last night and it was just approved this morning. My 10 mass starts consisted almost exclusively of collegiate races, with the exception of 1 4/5 crit.

I was such an animal on the bike that I immediately started in cat 4.. Oh wait there was no cat 5 back in the early 80's.. When I first raced there wasn't even a hardshell rule.. My 1st helmet was a Kucharik hairnet, I thought that this was a great helmet because it was much thicker than the Cinelli hairnet.. what the hell was I thinking..

Well you're still here to tell the tale of the bygone hairnet era...so either you never racked your gourd, or it wasn't a totally worthless helmet
