deep v wheels?
considering purchasing a set of either mavic cosmic carbones or spinergy stealth pbo...actually
they would be a very nice gift...
worth it? make a difference? right now i'm riding on neuvation wheels which have been super durable
and are fairly aero. Obviously either of the above look great but is there a noticeable difference in speed
(TT and circuit races, cat 4, no huge climbs) at this level? i've heard it can mean as much as 1-2 mph difference - find that a little hard to believe.

Forget both of those and go for the Reynold Stratus DV's. Lighter, stronger, better. Roadbike review and Excelsports have voted the Stratus the best DV carbon wheel out there.

I ride on Zipp 404's. 1-2mph difference is probably a little over stated. I'd estimate from my experience, and reading, that the 404's are worth around 1/2mph in a solo effort, less in a pack.

Merlin posts like yours do not belong on this forum. .5mph! Come on they are worth 2-3mph! Quit with the honest answers and lie man lie!

Only prob I've had with Deep Vees is the don't stay on the ground as well in corners. Were talking Crit racing in the Midwest on some pretty bad bumpy roads, kind of an extreme case. They definitly feel faster, .68 mph or so im guessing.

oh yeah forgot to mention need to keep it around $1K or less, so even the carbones are questionable.
the reynolds are $1700! spinergy's are 750 or 900 with the carbon spokes. that's pretty expensive as it is. and I also want clinchers...(yeah I know tubies ride nice and are lighter but I don't want to deal with
gluing anything, plus poor braking.)

also the clinchers have aluminum rims along with the carbon - makes 'em heavier but also suitable for training...I have heard that the carbones in particular are as strong as open pro's (i.e. bombproof) and the
spinergys are suitable for cyclocross, so I would think they'd be tough too...here in NYC you can basically only ride pure carbon tubies in prospect park which was recently resurfaced...just about anywhere else you're likely to break 'em.
