carb-boom. by a long shot. i've tried hammergel, but it just didn't seem to do anything for me. you remember those dreamsicles that are made out of orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream? the orange carb-boom tastes just like that. and the apple-cinammon tastes as close to apple pie as i've ever had. and carb-boom works just as well for me as anything else

I use HammerGel! When asked why, I say it's because I can tolorate it better than the other gels (and I've tried just about every one). I say the same thing about PowerBars, I can eat one and it doesn't affect my stomach. Same with the drink I use, Eload, if what ever you are eating or drinking upsets your stomach it's useless.

Stating a preference here isn't useful. You have to find what works for you.

Conduct your own experiment. Try them under similar circumstances.
Then fudge the results.

I can't stomach any gel made. I've been using the "Clif Blocks", which are like gels in a gummy bear form. I love them and have used them exclusively for the last month or so.

Used to use GU. Changed to homemade, using brown rice syrup (bio), and a touch of KoolAid for flavor. Works a treat. And a whole lot less money!

Clif Shots seem to do the trick for me. I like that they use brown rice syrup instead of tons of sugar. That cran-razz flavor......I could eat that stuff for dinner.

Good to move onto gel. You need less water afterwards, they take seconds to eat, getting your hand back on the bars.
I find that GU (Espresso love!) and Honey Stinger are best for me. The powerbar, carboom, etc. tend to make me gag. I've only tried the Accel-gel once or twice but I feel as though it is a good product.

If I were you, I'd buy a few of each and see what you like. You are, after all, the one who will be ingesting them.

Hammergel vanilla. Works great for me, I like the taste and when I buy three jugs at once, the price is more reasonable that than most others. Although I started using it long before joining the Dead Dog Classic planning committee, Hammergel is one of our race sponsors, so I feel I sould support them.

TJHOO,

the best thing to do is go to your LBS or wherever that carries different gels and just buy a bunch of different ones. Try different brands and flavors.

I Personally like Hammergel Rasberry

Interesting. I do like the gels with a kick of caffeine as well though. Any way to add some to homemade gel (other than putting some coffee grounds in, yech).

Personally I like the clif shots. Haven't found a flavor I don't like yet.

I suspect that adding some form of chocolate (instead of KoolAid - can't think of that mix tasting too good) would supply the required caffiene.

Or I guess I could do a google and find that you can actually buy pure caffiene powder (who knew). 1/16 teaspoon yields 100MG whereas a clif shot has 25-50mg.

I might just have to try making some.

Really? no mess? Whenever I see them in the store they look all wet and sticky. I would like to try them..... but they look like a pain in the butt to eat while screaming down a hill.
