Jans Tour prep starts tomorrow!
Tomorrow is the first big test in the mountains at the Tour de Swiss. This is when Uli is going to have show his cards, if he still hasn't found his climbing legs he's going to lose the Tour.
Stage 5 - June 14: La Chaux-de-Fonds - Leukerbad, 210 km
The real race starts here. If the first four stages of the Tour de Suisse have been about sprinters and breakaway riders, today is all about the big guns who will be scrapping it out for the overall victory. The first half of the 229.5 kilometre stage from La Chaux-de-Fonds to Leukerbad is lumpy, and then after a near-100 kilometre stretch with mainly flat roads, things get nasty near the end.
Following bonus sprints near Sion (188 km) and Sierre/Route de Sion (203.3 km), the riders will start to climb. The first ascent is humane enough, a category four climb near Varen, but then very shortly after that the road heads upwards with a vengeance. The 1376 metre first category summit finish of Leukerbad will upend the general classification, revealing which of the pre-race favourites are going well and, at the same time, giving a strong indication of those who may be coming into form before the Tour.

All the main contenders for this years Tour were at the Dauphine, with the exception of Basso. If Jan is at the back of the bunch on the climbs I'll say right now he's not going to win the Tour. This years Tour route really is pretty balanced, but I believe Basso can take more time out of Jan in the mountains than Jan can take out of Basso in the TT's. The rest looked pretty bad last week with Flandis leading the pack. If Basso has 90% of his form from the Giro he's going to crush these guys!

cyclingnews has been saying that Ullricj is putting a presence in as many breaks as he can at the TdS right now. They also mentioned something about him being excited about the mountains...
Let's go Ulle!

He must be laughing all the time at these guys who actually work at this stuff when he just skates along. LA weighed his food while Jan just ate it all...and whos the dummy?

Apparently the Kaiser was in a break for quite some time today, and then ATTACKED the break and went off solo for quite some time. He then waited for them (on the descent??), and then drove the break again....

Basso is not there, but Schleck is from CSC. 4th last year, he loves this TDS, and as during the Tour he will be fully behind Basso, I would not be surprised, if he tried to put the pressure ( with the help of a strong CSC team ) to make Ullrich doubt on his capacities.
Schleck to win mountain stages, Cancellara to win the final time trial would be a blow mentally to Ullrich just before the start of the Tour. I guess it will be either Ullrich beats them all without any problem, or if starts struggling, he will refrain from attacking at this year's TDS and stay on "training mode".

Jan looked pretty damned good. Where are the naysayers now? This Tour could be an epic battle between Ivan and Jan. I'm really excited!
