It was a comedy monologue. Hopefully if the French can enjoy Jerry Lewis they can enjoy this.

A little off-topic, but Jerry Lewis movies were considered very high art in France, a fact which has always been a source of much smirking in North America. However, I have a theory as to why it is this way. He does some brilliant visual comedy, but for most of us, as anglophones, he spoils it with incredibly annoying, stupid voices. The French can ignore his voice and read the subtitles or hear it dubbed, so they can appreciate the artistry without that distraction.

As for Lance...it remains to be seen whether he has a future in standup.

French movies, subtitled? Nope. Maybe you have something there with the dubbing theory.

BTW - seeing as LA is 0 for 2 with his attempts at stand up (SNL & the ESPYS) i think he should forget about being an entertainer and stick with saving the world.

ymmv

I can asure you the dubbed voice of Jerry Lewis in French was as annoying and awful as the original English one.

Yes, the French team was a model of good sportsmanship and clean living before, during, and after the World Cup. It ought to be against the law to be disrespectful of such paragons of sport.

Of course, to SOME people, they appear to act like a gang of thugs...but there is no accounting for taste.

Actually, Jerry Lewis was given ONE lifetime acheivement award in France, and it was tongue-in-cheek. The only people who took it seriously were Jerry lewis and the US.

Yeah, and Materazzi - thug that he is - is the picture of sportsmanship, isn't he?

Wait a minute, why am i asking you, my friend from below sea level? You obviously have no clue what the hell you're talking about, do you?

That's OK, I won't lecture you on Bum Phillips & Earl Campbell, and if you don't mind, please return the favor with regards to football, or soccer as your type likes to call it.

For a non-French European like myself, can anyone from the States confirm that the word "*******" is commonly used over there in comedy monologues. So, in certain circumstances, saying: "You're a bunch of *******s" is funny? (by the way, Jerry Lewis always made fun of himself, never of others)

Armstrong is clever. He knew he was about to come to France, and he really really wanted to "piss them off", so the French would talk about it. So he chose a nice stage (ESPY), and attacked what was most hype and that is the French soccer team. He already had had a go at them in the past, during the Actovegin affair in France ("why always cycling, why always me? French soccer team was tested positive, and nobody cares").

Good move, very good move.

Have a nice day

hahaha I was at the Mountain that year...but we'd left before it really stared to bucket rain. Good times.

The next year you could buy t-shirts that said 'I'm an a$$hole - Jim Richards told me so!"

How come then when I act like a ****z no one laughs?

Artistry and comedy my arse. My vision of hell is endless reruns of Jerry Lewis movies.

That was the issue. Skaife was driving Godzilla and it crashed in the rain but seeing as they called off the race when he was still leading he and Richards won. Richards is a kiwi as well.

They banned turbos after that. That's why Bathurst is so dull now. Who wants to see falcons and commodores race against each other. Back in the 1980's you had everything - Jags, Beemers, RX7's, Z28's, Transams etc...
