Video of the crash from my last post.

http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n...t=7abddd51.flv

First the girl in red, then a guy in blue rides in to her and goes down. Then the guy in the snot green helmet goes down. Thats me. The last guy does a good job of avoiding it all.

HillMut 08-24-06 03:56 PM

the guy in the blue rode right into her wheel...smooth.

hi565 08-24-06 04:48 PM

wow, you hit that fast man

Bockman 08-24-06 05:13 PM

the first guy to go down corners like a 6 year old girl

+1... but the one going slow enough to get hit by him corners like a 5-year-old girl. :)

DrPete 08-24-06 05:53 PM

I think the guy shooting the video summed it up best...

"Ayahh... Oh, no..." :D

Glad you're OK...

jrennie 08-24-06 05:56 PM

if she was in front, she should not have stopped pedaling through the corner but on the other hand the guy that hit her should have been looking ahead and seen her going slower

brianappleby 08-24-06 06:46 PM

maybe it was harder in the moment, but it looked like he (guy 1) had room and time to go either inside or outside, but chose to go through the center.

DrPete 08-24-06 08:18 PM

Any way you look at it, the whole thing just sucks. As with anything else, I've found that bike-handling skills vary wildly in the lower cats. I've almost plowed into breakaways when I've chased them down through a corner...

Just gotta be careful out there, which is tougher to do when the adrenaline's going.

Agreed. It even looked like the guy was going for an inside line, but bailed at the last moment.

On a more positive note, the combination of this video plus Schumacher's unfortunate sideswipe of Hincapie reinforces the idea that if somebody touches my rear wheel, they're probably more likely to go down than I am.

Actually, it looks like she did pedal all the way through the corner. OTOH the guy who ran into her from behind was coasting.

Anyway, there are only 2 kinds of bike racers: 1. Those who have crashed. 2. Those who will crash.

If you're going to crash, this one's the kind of crash to have. Looks like the OP actually managed to cushion his fall by landing on the grass.

I think I've got it...

There was a giant tractor beam being emitted from the girls butt, which pulled the first dude right into her rear wheel. That's about the only thing that makes sense to me anyway, as I'm not quite sure how else he managed to run into her with all that room on either side with nobody around him.

Well, you know what they say, your bike will go where your eyes are looking... :D

Yep...that's basically where I was goin' with that :D

Really unfortunate. from the video, that was about the most unnecessary accident, just no reason for the first guy to hit her. Were you guys OTB or off the front at that point in the race?

jrennie 08-25-06 08:14 AM

minus the whole crashing thing, it ooks like a fun section. Is this race through a residential area and closed to traffic? Very different looking from the expansion joint and pothole road we get in Nevada.

timmhaan 08-25-06 09:32 AM

there are better ways to meet women.

But think of the pick-up line opportunities:

Like..."Do you crash here often?"....

:p

"Hey, baby... rub some silvadene on that for ya?"

San Rensho 08-25-06 10:28 AM

Its the guy in back's fault. The rider in front ALWAYS as the right of way. Yes, the girl was not at race speed, but she left lots of room on the inside and the outside to pass and she was riding a straight line. The guy made a bozo move and ran up her wheel, he should have just passed on the inside, he had plenty of room.

Hope you're ok Hiromian.

I have used the line " Would you like to lick my wounds" I had no succsess with that line. Seriously, it was at a haloween bash and I dressed up as road kill. I think I really freaked some girls out.

We were off the back and I was making one last effort to get back in it. The grass saved the day. I straightened the bike out and got back in for the final 3 laps. I did not affect the outcome.

Full story here. Grab a beer curl up and have at er.

Yes this was a closed course.

[QUOTE=keevohn]Agreed. It even looked like the guy was going for an inside line, but bailed at the last moment.[QUOTE]

+1 If he would have just kept in his turn instead of sitting up he could have slid past her. He was coming upright and leaning almost to his left on impact.

If I had a nickel for the number of times I had close calls like this when I was Tri-ing it, well, I could buy a paper, but it did happen almost every race, I was a horrible swimmer and spent the bike passing people and it seemed like every turn would have this kind of excitement.
