How to start my own racing team?

There was a team in my town for years, and the last two years, it just faded out. Could someone give me the run down on the essentials to starting a team. This is not by any means a pro team nor semi pro; simply amateure. I need to know stuff like:

1. How much to ask from the main sponsor?
2. How much should other minor sponsors pay?
3. How to get affiliated with USCF or UCI?
4. How many races do I have to put on per season?
5. DO we need insurance?
6. How do I protect myself from getting sued?
7. Would it be a tax write-off for me?
8. Do we pay race fees / hotels?
9. How much are uniforms?
10. Should it be invite only or open admissions?

FEEDBACK PLEASE!

Man, trust me, find someone who's done this before. Search for some remnants of the old team/s, and get them to help. I'm in the middle of this crap right now, and it's a serious PITA. You'll want some support, believe me.
If you can find a shop to help, you're off to a great start.

Best of luck,
Cole

Exactly that. My shop had a team years ago. I basically just restarted it. The framework is there, believe me. Someone, somewhere, knows how that old team in your area was run, what happened to the bank account, knows what sponsors were interested, knew how to get things rolling. They might just dump everything in your lap, but at least you've got a start. This is, by far, the easiest way to go about this. Don't reinvent the wheel. Just improve it.

HTH,
Cole
