TT timing f#&k up!!!!

Just found out the TT I did 2 weeks ago can't be timed because of "equipment failure"? WTF

This is second time this year this has happened. FWIW Definitely use your bike computer as unofficial backup everytime.

Has this happened to anyone before? I'm grateful for the TT series but F&#K I coulda got the workout at home instead of the AFB.

Wasn't there a backup "system?" Seems like they should have either had a) two manual watches or b) a timing system and a manual watch backup. As you know, these days a good stop watch can store 500 finish times. But even with the best of intentions these things can happen in scoring a race. Luckily it was a local event and not a UCI event (where the motos sometimes can't even follow the correct course). As they say, "That's bike racing."

That sucks! Sometimes people try to overuse technology. When I put on TTs, we'd just have two synchronized watches. One's at the start-line and one's at the finish. The person at the finish just records the actual time when people cross. Then match it up to the start-time later and you have elapsed time...

Yeah, that pissed me off too. They wait 2 weeks to post it when they knew there were problems? Fred had some issues last week and still had his up in 2 hours.

maybe you should ask for a discount on the next race you enter with this promoter? seems pretty unfair to pay money to participate in something only to have it all screwed up through no fault of your own.

i mean, you wouldn't pay full price for a dinner if they forgot to bring out the dessert, would you? pay a mechanic for work they didn't do correctly? i think this is in the same boat...you should expect something for the money.

I agree with Danno. At both TT's there's always the computer guy that wrote code for this program etc. If there was a simple timing system and no lapping meaning guys have to be super honest and accurate about capabilities/speed, this problem wouldn't exist.
The other TT we do is one minute starts BUT random speed/capability so you can have 3 noobs in front of Harry the Hammerhead and let the lapping begin.
I already sent my e-mail thanking them for the race that I never raced in officially.

You're putting on a time trial. The one thing you need to get right is the TIME. If not, you should be put on TRIAL for scamming people out of their money.

And...Maybe I'm whipping the wrong horse, but shouldn't the USCF come into play on this?
Are they not the overseers of cycling?
Shouldn't they standardize the system so that a promoter doesn't have to re-invent the wheel EVERY time they put on a race?
While they work on developing an elite athlete who ends up using drugs, the cycling masses spend vasts amounts of time and money to train only to attend half-baked events every weekend.
