Ohio Racing & Formation of a State Cycling Association

Ohio does not currently have a State Cycling Association. There have many discussions of the formation of one but all seem to die out.

I would be very interested to get input from those who have experience with state associations. I would like to know what it would/could do for cycling (racing) in Ohio.

There is currently a discussion of the topic going on at Della Ciclista Bicycle Racing Forum.

get in Touch with Roger, John, or Rich in Orville through Orville Schwinn or Orville Cycling Club.. They may have some good info

I am the VP on the board of the local assoc here in Florida. The Florida Road Cycling Association (FRCA). We post our bylaws and updates on www.floridacycling.com

The great thing about forming a local assoc is that USACycling sends us $10 per annual license sold in FL. It is the USCF's way of putting some control back into the local powers-that-be. With that money we can do whatever we deem worthy. Our main goal is recruitment and retainment. Bring in new faces and keep the old.

With that money, we are able to do many things that in the past could not be done without getting many people on the same page. Now we just elect a board and get it done. Advertising the Florida Points Series, subsidizing junior camps, running a promoters meeting bi-annually, etc...

Lots of things you guys can do up there with the money, but most importantly, you'll have Ohio under one state-sized umbrella and not just a mish-mash of ideas in each corner of the state.

South Carolina has one and Ohio doesn't?

I would insert a comment on the irony with this thread, but I won't as many here wouldn't understand.
