I think I'm going to just shut my season down.

There is Everest Challenge in a little over a week, but I've hit a wall, so to speak. For whatever reason, recovery has taken a hit and the legs are just not coming back like they should be. Considering the season started in early Feb, perhaps that's part of the reason. Or it might be the CTL of 130.

Either way, since I no longer seem to recover day-to-day, a two day sufferfest would be ill-advised. I can still get a refund on the reg fee, so there's really no sunk costs at this point.

I also feel the distinct need for a transition period. I might go for a run (!) today. I had some success with a periodized approach this season, so I think, rather than race when the mind and the body seem unwilling, it's time to call it a season and start looking to next season.

And since this is California, races start up again in January.

Well, Season almost over (1 or two more races this weekend). I am extremely happy with my season. I have:

* 11-1st place finishes (PA State TT and NJ state were first in my category) out of 26 total races,
* 3 additional podium finishes
* 5 additional top ten finishes outside of the podium
* a state TT championship
* 3rd in the cat 3 cup competition
* Part of the cat 3 team cup winning team
* 4th in the time trial cup
* currently ranked the number 1 cat 3 individual TTist in the country by USA cycling over the past 12 months

Now it is time to take a few weeks recharge and get back on the horse so I can be as strong as KP and Nomad this coming year. Nomad just scares me.

Whatever! Of course, if you're still sandbagging next year, we might get to race until you decide to cat up! My wife has a brother in Jersey so I'll have some reasons to come up your way. I'm just hoping to get through the transition in December without too much loss in fitness now.

For the obligatory training status update, I'm coming into pretty good form right now. I'm carrying 155-160 TSS/day 7-day average and will pop over the 140 CTL mark this week, but just briefly before starting to taper for peak events next week and two weeks later. The last week looked like this:

9/4 255.60 - 2 hrs SST, 3 VO2max intervals, 2 more hours L3
9/5 142.70 - 2.5 hrs L3
9/6 72.60 - 2 hrs L1 / 6x10 second sprints
9/7 242.60 - 1.5 hrs SST, 2.5 hrs L2/L3
9/8 201.70 - 4 hrs L2
9/9 0.00 - Off
9/10 162.10 - 2x20's followed by 1.5 hrs L2
9/11 237.40 - 4 hrs L3
9/12 162.1 - 2.5 hrs L3

I was hoping to be at a FTP of 360, but I think 355 is where it's at now, based on power distro charts. 40km TT next week will be a good checkup. I'll do another mini-build after Oct 8th and race two hard events in November. I'd love to make 360 by the end of the year so I start the January base @ 345 where I started the summer at.

You my friend are a monster. You will just go to the front of every pack and ride solo until you are a cat 3 or even a cat 2. Make sure you choose races with big prize payouts, because I will be dissapointed if you take second plae in even one. Unless you are 210 lbs, those are every bit PRO numbers.

I don't know if my shoulder went back in "right".

Fortunately I have plenty of vicodin left (the 750mg pills), and it didn't really do **** last night. Finally fell asleep at 5 a.m. this morning.

TSS = Training Stress Score. ( https://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/...11/defined.asp )

The chart in my signature randomly rotates, but the common theme is - Red line would be Chronic (long term) training load. Blue line is Acute (short term/last 7 days) training load, and green line is Training Stress Balance (or "freshness" on the bike). They are the three results of using the Performance Manager system developed by the folks at Cyclingpeaks (Coggan, Hunter, et al.)

https://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/...gerscience.asp

My full performance management chart is in the blog profile that the chart links to:

to put it simply, 100 is the average stress of a 40k TT. This guy is able to take the stress of 1.5 40k TTs every day for over 6 weeks. To be a STRONG cat 2, 100 is all one needs. Pro is the level he is training at.

Yes indeed. I look at my CTL in the high 80s to low 90s, and feel so very, very pedestrian. Then I think I can blame my job...but nope, he's in a similar work position to me.

Basically, you're sick Mr. Nomad

My Doc has requested xrays of my shoulder

Something about the way the ball seats into the socket or something. All I know is the 750mg Vicodin didn't really do too much, so now I'm on Percoset . It's nice to have choices.

I'm intrigued by your power data available in your site. Did you write all the PHP that grabs data from thw WKO files?

The chart PHP is stock code. The math for the performance manager charts in various places is available algorithms, I just put it all in the right places. The only numbers for the performance manager charts are TSS and date, and I wrote the code necessary to receive/retrieve it in the SQL database. The powerfiles charts are much the same stock chart code, but I had to create a way to upload/insert the power data into the SQL database. That part is a bit clunky and not used much these days.

So, to answer the questions, any interface/buttons/clicks, etc... that I use for the power data I wrote. The actual charting software is stock code from jpgraphs modified just slightly to fit some of my needs and look prettier.

My shoulder is completely obliterated. I can't even lay down now, as it hurts slightly less to sit up. Took two percosets earlier, it's as if I took nothing....WTF. I think I have a severely pinched nerve somewhere....

Good gawd damn.

I'm doing lots of SST...despite doing essentially no FTP work since June, I haven't lost anything. Looking to build a lot this winter, and be a steady 80kg.

That's essentially my plan, as well. I find that my FTP only moves upward with lots and lots of L4/L3 work - something I couldn't really work into racing season. Two weeks of 2X20 is already bringing results. Last couple sets have been done at 285 watts. If I could break 300 by the end of winter, that would be a very successful off-season.

Hopefully I can keep the winter weight off and stay at 64kg. Not being in Chicago this winter, but rather California, ought to make that a ton easier.

Well....

My primary care Doc ordered x-rays of my shoulder...they came back fine. Went to the Chiropractor today, and he took some x-rays of my neck....not so fine. Guess one of my disks is messed up, and is causing issues with my shoulder too. He's getting clearance from my ins. company to get an MRI done, and I've been told not to ride my bike.

Crap, that's scary stuff. I'd stay away from a Chiropractor though (too many Drs in the family badmouthing them over the years, I guess). I'd hit the sports medicine clinic and go for an ortho guy or gal...

Hope you get it fixed and get back on two wheels soon!
