after our postings yesterday I really got worried about doing the 1mins on the trainer and I think it was some what justified because I had a hard time making a smooth transition from standing and hammering to sitting and holding on.
I debated for a good bit about braving the pouring rain and doing the first half outside anyway.
Even though I came up slightly shy on the last two tests I think Ive reached all the goals my coach set for me last fall.

Usless graph time!
I was planning on doing my tempo workout last night on the Thurs. group ride until i noticed it was raining at 5pm. Damn!
So it was rollers for me. I love the nice linear graphs i get from roller workouts. My workout last night was 1 45 min Tempo interval at 190-225 watts and 1 Threshold interval @ 250-260 watts. Piece of cake I was thinking after the breakthrough ride the night before. No such luck. This workout hurt. I hope my legs recover before Saturday.
I like the nice linear rise in HR and Power during that tempo interval. I hit it for 216w avg @ 155 bpm. (my max is 191). I hit the threshold interval for 265 watts @ 166 bpm. After that killer 45er I didnt think i had the legs to do the threshold one. So i just HTFU and gutted it out. I rewared myself with a beer with dinner. Salad and a grilled cheese sammich.

I spend a great deal of the time on the trainer so anything thats going to allow me to expand my trainer workouts is a big plus.

learned so much at my training group ride last night..
I cant see straight this morning and feel like a bus hit me but here goes...
we set out to do a very windy 2 hour training ride.
the ride leader was riding next to me, explaining what he had in mind to practice, (pace lines and intervals)
well.... it didnt quite work out this way, there was another newbie with us and he rode in the most erratic ways... he would leave the group and sprint away from us, leaving me with a gap to close and a nasty head wind.. Id sprint and close the gap just for him to come back to riding with the group and take off again, leaving me to struggle to close the gap again.( and again and again)
( seems he couldnt control himself to chase down any riders that didnt belong to us just to show off)
I really lost a lot of energie playing catch up to close the gap, but in a way I am glad he rode like this. made me learn that picking the right wheel to follow will be a determinating factor for me as to staying with the group versus getting dropped.
the cross wind was unbarable at times and the ride leader had the group in a formation where i was most protected ( since I was the smallest of them all) that new rider would just start riding erraticly again and take off from the formation!
the ride leader decided that we werent going to practice the pace line, he felt that this kid could cause us a crash.
we practice intervals and ...I could keep up!!! side note ( I got an email from the ride leader saying that I was holding on very well and was a very fast learner)
OK climbs... same problem.. I fall behind on most of them. I took the time to listen to my body and mind to find out what is the matter here.
breathing was fine, no signs of struggle... legs were burning. it was a matter of how long can I endure this pain and this is where I was fighting with myself " you can, you are doing it!!"
" who are you kidding, you cant keep that up!!!"
I would give in and fall back, so in other words. i need to learn to be able to suffer for a longer time than Im used to, so this is partly a "mental" problem and of course physical since im riding with all men and they are stronger then me.

thanks Karen!
and I forgot to mention I almost crashed on a 'graded' bridge?
not sure what you call those, it's made out of metal..
it was very shaky and unsteady and the cross wind hit me hard and i lost control, the metal seemed to have taken all control of my bike, pushing my front wheel to the left and leaving my back wheel to the right, and to the left and to the right.. I screamed "****!!!!" absolutly thinking i was going down but I somehow regained control of my bike and made it through..
I was shaking non stop, that was so close.. I got complimented on my bike handling skills but
I think someone was just watching over me tell you the truth..
came to find out later that some in the group usually walk that bridge. I know I will next time!!!

Congrats bdg, sounds like you're really progressing, and have found a good group.
Close-calls are scary. Better than actually going down though

yep.. definitly right on that one, count your blessings, they say!
I am progressing well and learning plenty, this is harder then anything I have tried before but Im motivated and having a good time.
one thing I know for sure is that I'm not ready to race and I cant be delusional about this, I have a lot to learn. The series have been postponed by a week or two ( was suppose to be april 10th) and that's fine by me as I still wont be ready in a week or two! will I show up anyway? probably.

Don't wait. Nearly everyone gets dropped in their first race, it's best to just get it over with I was OTB halfway through my first road race, and won my second one.
Don't wait.

My stuff:
The rest week has gone well thus far.
Monday: 45 minutes in the gym (cardio/core/bodyweight exercises)
Tuesday: 8mi TT @ 342w (for the win)
Wed/Thur: Off
Friday: 1:20, 3 quick sprints, 40 min L4 interval @ 300w to open the legs up for the Rock Hill crit tomorrow - I NEEDED to ride today. For one, I was going crazy after two days off and two, my legs were made of wood for the first half hour of the ride, then I opened up and felt pretty f'n strong and pushed a solid threshold session, but capped the workout time to reduce BS time on the bike.
Feeling good about the races. I'm working on channeling Jens, generalized hate for myself and the world at large, and a new favorite - RacerEx's "rabid pitbull."

rest today, easy spin tomorrow, race on sunday
ive been feeling a lot more confident all week after my race last Sunday. Training felt easier and recovery seemed better. I usually take this as a sign of having a terrible race and returning to the doldrums the following week.

status: nervous/excited. first race is tomorrow, 30m road race, citizens/5. I am moderately satisfied with my training so far.
goals for tomorrow:
1) measure guads, crush souls, win. If not, and my training was better than I expected, crush souls and hit the top 10. If not applicable, finish the race upright and with the field.
2) Ride safe and not crash in front of my wife .
2) id acute weaknesses to train.
3) not let my nerves get the best of me and have fun.

Try before you buy. It's not all its cracked up to be or what you expect - the rocking isnt that great and doesn't work all that well. I have one, wish I had just got a regular kurt kinetic (although with the bigger flywheel). Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Nice SST today. 55 minutes at 322W(NP). It's been a good week, no days off since before I won Manda. Ready to take the weekend off.
My 6yo son told me he wants to learn about water rockets. So, we'll break out the PVC and 2 liter bottles and get after it
Next week is my first TT, and I can't wait. It feels like my FTP has taken a huge leap (322W NP is way above what I've been able to do in the past, and it didn't hurt). We shall see.
