Aero Helmet Choice

Ok, these pictures wont be around long, and they are tilted a bit differently as you can see by the angle of the top tube, but I am too lazy to go back and reshoot them on the same level. This is just for comparison of how two different helmets sit in the TT position (I was pedaling in both pics which is why the leg position and thus back position differs slightly, but you get the idea). Does anyone have any pictures of their favorite aero helmet? I am considering picking up a Bell Metoer II, but I am quite happy with my LAS Chronometro. Pictures? Anyone??

I use a Louis Garneau Rocket. The helmet is just about flush with my back when I'm in my aero position. Keep in mind though, that this is on a road bike so my position is more upright than it would be otherwise.

Any particular reason for the windscreen on your helmets, Doc? Is it that much more aero? Better visibility?

I have the Rocket as well. But I think the LAS pretty much does the same thing.

I have the Giro Advantage, it fits well and sits just above my back when in the 'position'. The only knock I have against it is that it does get pretty hot on very warm days. As for just looks, the Meteor wins hands down.

Nah, B said to buy this for my xmas gift. It supposedly fits larger noggins. I may still end up getting the Rocket though if this one doesn't work out.

To the question of the windscreen being aero, windtunnel testing (not by me) has shown that they are less aero with the windscreen. They just both happened to have windscreens on them, so that is the way you see them.

Both too small? nah. The LAS is one size fits all and can handle noggins much bigger than mine. The Garneau is a medium and also has to be tightened a fair amount to cinch to my calvarium.

Now that CSLone has made his selection, this thread is no longer necessary...just thought I would give y'all an idea of how some different helmets fit (Thanks Penguin for the pic...If I get the new Meteor, I will post it for comparison).

Well, it finally came in after a number of shipping SNAFUs. I am thinking I have me a keeper. However, of note is that the mass producd helmet is not the same as the CSC team's helmet as it looks like they are either made for each rider, or there is just a slightly longer/lower (and thus closer to the body) tail section. Still, the frontal area is less and what the hell, it matches my bike. Downsides may be a cooling problem (as I have to REALLY squeeze the ears into this thing) but not much else that I can tell. It is a snug fit. Also, it is not "flimsy" as other aero helmets have een accused of due to a styrofoam skeleton throughout (whereas the LAS is essentially a styrofoam bowl with an aero fairing glued to it).

I flipped the Dave Z picture for similar Orientation.

It looks like there is an add on just kind of slotted onto the bottom of the "regular" helmet like yours. Not sure how you'd go about getting that if you wanted it.

The deeper section (and modifiable) Bell's are said to be on the way for the public. God knows when or how much though.

I got the silver and blue one the other day, and am using it for the first time on the 10th at the Belmont-Piedra TT. Should be good time. This is my other recent toy purchase -
