EnduroxR4

Anyone else use this stuff? I've been using this stuff after some of my longer/harder rides lately, and I figured I'd share with the group....

In a nutshell, the **** seems to actually work. I've used stuff like Cytomax and GU20 in the past as they were drinks that are supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread for buffering lactic acid and replenishing electolytes during rides, blah blah blah......I found that stuff works (for me) about as well as Gatorade. I couldn't tell a difference in the least between Cytomax and Gatorade for on-the-bike sports/energy drinks.

Anyway, on to EnduroxR4. This was apparently developed by people much more intelligent than a good portion of us (or at the very least, they actually went to school for it), and they have everything down to a science. Literally. I did a 2 1/2 hour ride yesterday.....which isn't really all that long, but it was on a trainer, so it's not like I was coasting. Came back today for another 2 hour session, in which 1 hour was intervals. Felt like I didn't even ride yesterday, fatigue-wise. I never would've guessed that a "supplement" would actually work this well....and I've experimented with different supplements back in my bodybuilding days as well. This is my first foray into pure recovery supplements/drinks, as I've always figured that eating food would take care of it, but I am pleasantly surprised with the results so far.

Now granted, yes you can emulate the same thing via food intake....but if you want to really try to get that 4:1 ratio of carbs vs. protein, as well as try to figure out all the extra vitamins and crap that's in Endurox and get that all squared away in the right portions, be my guest. For me, it's much easier/quicker to put 12 ounces of water in a cup, throw in 2 scoops of powder, stir, and devour.

The other benefit I've noticed is after drinking it, I'll jump in the shower and wash up, and I can actually wait a little bit before eating....it seems to *slightly* curb the urge to clean out my kitchen cabinets of all remaining food right after a ride.

All in all, good stuff. Two thumbs up here.

I've used it but never really liked the taste. It worked pretty well for me but I've been using HEED Recoverite and I like both the effects and the taste better.

I have the chocolate stuff (pretty hard to go wrong with chocolate), and it sorta reminds me of that Instant Breakfast stuff I would have back when I was a kid. I've certainly had much worse (the GU2O comes to mind...that **** was flat-out disgusting).

I've heard good things about the HEED drinks. I think I may try it at some point as well. Preferably after I finish this giant container of the R4. But for the time being, I'm plenty happy with the Endurox.

I like the taste of the chocolate Endurox and even if all the magical mumbo jumbo doesn't do diddly-squat, it's still a very good way to get 4:1 carbs to protein & hydration really quickly after a workout. Plus it's tasty.

I bought it with the $20 off $50 coupon from performance, so I got it for like $17 per big canister, so it doesn't break the bank either

I love the orange Endurox--quite yummy IMHO. While I have no great way to quantify it, my legs feel much better after hard workouts than without. Tastes better to me than chocolate milk, too--just goes down easier.

FWIW, I just ordered up a 4.3lb (whatever the huge can is) for $27 from a place called luckyvitamin.com. I've also ordered from smartbodynutrition.com for about the same price.

Next time performance puts out another $20 off $50 coupon, I'm stocking up for a year's worth of gels, powerbars, protein bars, cytomax & endurox.

I have like 8 boxes of chocolate GU in my kitchen cabinet. I seriously love that stuff.

Ever tried Hammer Gel? I never did, then decided to try it because our sponsoring team sells it. Seems to work, and I like the taste much better than GU.

DrWJODonnell 02-05-07 09:39 PM

Endurox rocks. I do the lime (for accelerade too). I was soo happy that they are a team sponsor and so now I dont spend stupid amounts of cash on it anymore. Woo HOO!!

VosBike 02-05-07 10:39 PM

I get it for free and drink it after just about any workout. Does wonders. I personally am convinced its the large dose of vitamin E. Previous recovery drinks I've tried have had just about everything else besides the vitamin E and just didn't seem to work as well.

My friend and I both like plain GU. You think plain and think "no taste". Not true. It's honey flavored and not as cloying as other flavors.

cat4ever 02-06-07 07:26 AM

I used R4 last year after every race or very hard workout. I found that I was able to bounce back the next day better. This year, I am sponsored by Hammer so I'm giving Recoverite a chance. Same basic theory.

As for the taste of R4, try to use 2 scoops with 20 oz (a bottle) of water. That was the correct ratio for good flavor to me.

I've tried Endurox - I thought it tasted only slightly worse than a bucket of used antifreeze. I switched to First Endurance Ultragen, cappucino flavor. Much better for my palate, I like to mix up a bottle and take it with me as a 3rd bottle for long rides and drink it on the way home. For everyday use, I usually just follow up workouts with a glass of skim milk and a banana - much cheaper. Below is an interesting comparison of recovery drinks, I'm sure it's biased to favore the FE product, but a comparison none the less.

MDcatV, did you try the chocolate flavor? That seems to be the consensus favorite flavor, but YMMV.

NoRacer 02-06-07 08:41 AM

Here's an interesting article about Endurox:

http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0113.htm

This may be the supplements that come in a box as opposed to the R4 recovery drink, but then again, the R4 recovery drink may have some of the same adaptogenic herbs as the boxed supplement.

branman1986 02-06-07 08:59 AM

it is referring to the supplements in the box, and I don't recall anything weird like ciwujia in the ingredients for R4. and again, "even if all the magical mumbo jumbo doesn't do diddly-squat, it's still a very good way to get 4:1 carbs to protein & hydration really quickly after a workout"

PHL is not publicizing it as much as they did in the past, apparently, because the only mention of it is here:

http://www.enduroxr4.com/pages/r4system.html

It's very discreetly shown in the graphic for bullet 3. Reduce Oxidative/Muscle Stress along with Glutamine.

branman1986 02-06-07 10:58 AM

good find, NR...that's a little disappointing, but so long as it doesn't detract from performance somehow I don't really mind.
