MD/DC/NoVA Training Series (Tradezone)

Anybody do this training race series? What's the course like? I noticed it's NOT on a closed course.
http://www.bikedoctor.com/raceflyer.htm
I'll be in town (N. VA) Prez weekend and will either find a group ride in VA/DC, bring the mountain bike to hit Fountainhead or get out to this race.

I'm going to be in DC that weekend and I'm planning to ride this race if the weather cooperates. I'm hoping they'll let me do both the Beginner 5 race and the 3/4/5 race, but I don't know how the rules work on that.

I'm going to be out there for the B race, but it's going to be my first time out there--didn't do the series last year. IIRC it's a D-shaped course about 1 mile long, but I might be confusing it with another race.

Either way, hope to see you there.

zimbo, you'll have to pay close attention. Riskus is very hard to pick out from a pack of bike racers.

Oh wow, I have a client in that industrial park. Where exactly is the course? I am guessing more towards the back end? I doubt they have you blasting past the police barracks.

I'll be there, I did a couple last year. If I recall it's a D-shape, one mile long, very similar to Quicksilver in Maryland. It's partially closed - your lane is closed but cars can still pass you going the other direction, and there are cops at the intersections and everything. Plus the only traffic will be people coming to and from the race. I believe its the same course as Turkey Day in the fall.

I'm pretty sure you can do both the C and B race if you're a Cat 5, I recall someone doing that last year. Not the most exciting course, but it's the FIRST RACE!!!

I recall you being a photographer, derath... If you are able to immortalize my blazing mediocrity in a photo, there would be much beer in it for you.

Maybe even a video montage...

No beer needed. I am not interested in racing...yet. But I definitely enjoy watching. I have yet to see a crit in person.

And yes I do love sports photography.

That would be SWEET! I still have a month to make myself a halfway decent racer so the story is a bit less of a tragedy... Of course if you come to watch, my superstitions would say that I'm destined to wind up in a bleeding heap of snapped Pinarello, but what the hell. You need to see a race.

Don't break the Pinny, Pete... if I had to witness that, I would be forced to slit my wrists with the scattered shards of carbon fiber.

Assuming I'm able to do both races, I'll have finished the 5 race just moments before having to start the 3/4/5 race so I'll just be hanging on for dear life. No blowing people away for me... more liking sucking wheels.

It's a wide open course and completely non-selective. Since you're a new racer, doing the cat 5 race will be good for trying to get a placing; and doing the 3/4/5 race will be a good one for you to practice riding in a pack and maintaining position toward the front, especially toward the end of the race when things get faster.

zimbo, you can help yourself to my wheel in the B race, and I'll promise not to hit you with any of the phlegm from this lovely chest cold I've got.

I'm looking at the weather forecast and I'm wondering... Is this race even going to happen?

If they run the race I'll be there. I'll be big-time bummed if the weather doesn't cooperate.

If you don't mind the cold and the race is cancelled our usual 9AM group ride will probably still be on...

I'd love to ride with you guys if it comes to that. I'm going to head over to the race course Sunday morning and see how it goes from there.

I've been off the bike for 3 days now, and still have this damned cough. I'll get in the saddle today and see how it goes.

I might do this one, but without proper traininig this winter, I think I am gonna do the C race instead of B, and again, I might do B if my team show up.

How much does it cost for one day license? I have not renewed mine yet.

It's typically $5 and a pain in the neck for everyone behind you in line who has to wait longer to register while additional forms are filled out. Why not renew now and bring the print out with you for verification.

One of our club members will be an official at the race, and she just sent us an e-mail about possible cancellation of the race. If I hear any word I'll throw it up in this thread. Still on for now, though.
