Tour of California - stage 6 - Balcom Canyon Rd ????

Anyone on here familiar with the area? Where would be the best place on the map below to watch the climb up Balcom Canyon? Where's the actual KOM line at?

Wouldn't know for sure where the KOM is, BUT the actual summit is about 1/2 mile-ish from Bradley rd. Coming from South Mtn Rd, the cyn rd stays mostly at the canyon bottom and climbs gently until about 1/3 from the summit. That last 1/3 mile is a total butt kicker, avging an 18% grade. If I was gonna spectate (which I'm plannin on doin..) I'd park somewhere in Old MoorPk (High St area) and ride up. The climb from the 'southern side is more steady and the roads are fun, nice ridin. I prefer going up Grimes Cyn (23) rather than out LA Ave (118). Both have traffic, but the Grimes Cyn traffic will be just tad slower and there's better shoulder on the 23. Once on Broadway (Grimes curves hard right) the road has no shoulder, but becomes more of a country lane, although on race day there'll be some traffic, and prolly lotsa bikes.
Stockton is one of my Fav roads, up and down and curvy. Large Burn area out there from the fires this summer. My idea of best spectating is at the KOM and the 1/4 mile before - plenty large shoulder on that section and a spectacular view down the Canyon. You'll get a good look at ALL the riders since they'll be humpin it up that pitch in slow-mo. But then, most will have had last year's experience under their belt...
will Be interesting to see what kind of gearing they run, considerin the wide range from high speed downhill into Ojai, flats and then the vertical of Balcom...

I was there last year. There were huge crowds and it was a real party. People want nuts as riders crested the top. The Tour of California Grassy Knoll Project photos and videos from many spectators (and me) last year should give you an idea of where you want to be positioned.

Here are the photos and videos from last year's stage that included Balcom Canyon. Scroll half way down to 11:39:41 in the timeline for Balcom Canyon.

A couple of Balcom Canyon videos to get you excited:

The KOM winner: http://www.steephill.tv/grassyknoll/...26&filter=9185
The Peloton cresting: http://www.steephill.tv/grassyknoll/...26&filter=9185

The KOM point is at the highest point... you can't miss it. Get there early too.

This must be where the KOM is at. Looks like there's some sort of lines drawn on the ground. Looks like bleachers but I'm guessing it's parking?

Old MoorPk (High St area) and ride up
this pretty much the best spot or there are shoulder areas where you could possibly watch which are @ the top and down into the other side which has s-turns.
It has been about 10 years but when I lived in Moorpark going to santa paula and ojai use be my regular long rides rides

That's it. Looks like the area has been marked off, but don't count on official parking. It's every man for himself. Last year, I parked 500m down the other side in a ditch and made a reasonably quick escape.

haven't really paid attention to the stages this year
just noticed that Stg 6 goes to Santa Clarita, via lotsa FAV sections...
luv that ride from SB to Ojai and down to Santa Paula, same with the cruise out and up Balcom.
so After Balcom they go east out on Stockton, then Broadway and up and down Grimes Cyn - a very tricky descent with very tight turns and lotsa sand in the corners, hairy, hope nobody goes over the edge, no guardrails, long steep drops! Then down to Guiberson (fun flat ride through the orchards, as is South Mtn), then the 126 -freeway style to Santa Clarita.
I may just do the day on the moto, instead of pedalin, and be able to pick them up in a number of places and catch the finis, cool
