Milram to ride with Garmin

Hey all,

just thought I'd post a little bit of interesting info I just heard on the FredCast. Turns out Zabel, Pettachi and Co. at Milram are going to be running Edge 305's this year, should be interesting to see since I don't think they've been in the pro peloton before. No I don't work for Garm or anything just thought it was interesting seeing that every 3rd person here has a Garmin (every second one has a PT )

Have to think this is a Garmin maketing strategy to de-fred.

Why would pros need a Garmin Edge? Garmin needs the pros to market their cycling gizmo. But what advantage would an Edge give a pro racer? Power meters are understandable.

In this case it would appear to be all marketing, no?

There were a few riders using the Garmin last year. I know there was a rider in the ToG that posted his files each night on MotionBased.

The 305 will give you everything but power in a nice sized easy to use and reliable (much more so than Polar) package. Many riders don't use power in races so why not the 305?

It's all about the $$$$.

If cash wasn't thrown in, every pro would be on SRM.

Every once in a while somebody gets sent off course by a course marshal. This might help.

This is just an idea.. but maybe, just maybe, they can tuck into a super-superman position completely flat on the bike with their heads pointed straight, eyes looking at the ground, with the garmin display facing up at them showing them where they're going on the GPS display so they won't have to look forward.

I just figured with the TV helicopters, race caravan, fans lining the road and all they sort of know where they're going.

Because they can finish 100 miles fast enough so the battery doesn't die.

I suspect the colder temps during the Spring Classics might actually make that impossible.

Patentcad, I keep seeing you mention things like this like you think the primary function of the edge is navigation.
