the guys are super-approachable, and really chill. They've been around the wheel designing industry for a long time, and most recently worked with FSA. They branched off to start their own thing, and I started hearing about it early last year I think?

everything really is 100% manufactured in a little factory in "hippietown" aka the Fremont neighborhood. (less than a mile from the house I just moved out of)
I've seen them raced in all conditions this year: circuit races on nasty roads, muddy cross races with lots of roots and holes, crits... for an aero wheel that is a status symbol beyond everyone riding-the-cliche 'd Zipps and Hed FRs, these are the same amount of money, lighter, and look VERY distinctive. MadFiber has their aero data, and I understand that they will continue to release the info as time goes on.

Also, they sound super cool in the pack.... buzzy sort of?

Too bad they didn't test them on a couple bikes though, rather than bare wheel.

Coasting/freehub sounds, or rolling under power sounds?

I don't know anything about test data, but two guys in town got these wheels. One also has a set of Lightweights and the other is the shop owner that he bought them through. They both seem to really like the wheels, but the one guy said that he likes the Lightweights better. I don't remember all the reasons he gave, except that the Lightweights were stiffer.

Rolling under power sounds. They sound much more whooshey than other wheels of similar depth.

yeah - "whooshey" is more like it.
There are racers around here that use pretty nice gear (lightweights, etc)- several of them have said that they like the MF wheels more... don't know what that means in the grand total.

That's assuming the manufacturing is local

Wait...blind brand support.

Yes, that's the advantage.

It means that they have much more money than me. The guy I talked to said that he will probably use the MF wheels as training wheels and the Lightweights for racing. I said that he must be independently wealthy and he said something like "yeah, I did alright".

The guy is also like 6'5", and if I get behind him, my head is about the height of his saddle and I barely have to pedal at 30mph

I was gonna say, these MFs sound like a great entry.... into the boutique wheelset niche. Great news for the independently wealthy, useless for the rest of us.

ah - true. I have seen some images of nice metal bikes from aerocat and assumed you'd gotten one of those. If you got a carbon one, different story.

Replace those Zipps with some PSIMET's and it's basically this.

The Spinergy patent ran out recently on the tension spoke thing. I expected a rash of similar carbon spoked tensioned wheels to come out. Spinergy's flaw was that it took them 4 tries to figure out a good way to keep the hub flanges apart once they got them there.

Interesting history. Thanks. I'd forgotten that they were the first layed-in carbon spokes.

What are you doing with the old Shimano? Was it 9 speed, or 10?

I know a guy who is looking to pick up a 9 speed shifter if yours happened to be and you're looking to dump it.

I gave the 9 speed shifters to Red's brother when Rob loaned me some 10spd Ultegra. I'm giving those shifters back to him.

I think I'm going to put everything else on Captian America, i'm not sure it's worth the few hundred i'd get to sell it.

Sorry for the lack of garage door, don't have one =P

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I've had it about 9 months now. Didn't get to race on it this season due to injury, but next year it will be my race rig.

As of now it weighs 16 lbs exactly as it sits. I plan to get some new wheels early next year. The saddle and seatpost are probably going to be switched around then too. That should bring it into the sub-15 range ( the current wheels are heavy...I have 36h open pros that are lighter).
