I know .... I know its a Bikes Direct deal... and I know the LBS folks will be snoody about a bikes direct deal..... but I have bought several bikes.. some from the LBS and some Ive ordered and built...
so Ive done both..

I was always of the idea that you bought the best components (and wheels) you could afford and then the frame was sorta third in the piramid of importance.. the best I ve ever been able to afford was ultegra stuff back in the day.. and now thati am back riding the tube shifters are leaving me a little hang dog..

This deal has caught my tooth and I cant quit looking at it.. I have never owned Campy but from what I know it is pretty remarkable in its quality. (I could ride this gruppo for the rest of my now downhill life) I know that I have never seen a kit like this for this price.. but I dont know it might be sweet. You guys know what you are talking about.... I am old school... would you all.... tell me if you think this is as good a deal as I think it is...

54cm frame is 3.2 lbs...the fork is a pig at 458g. I am building one of these frames up currently as a beater with Centaur components. I bought it from someone here who bought it for the Record parts.

The deal is ok...it was better at $1500 shipped a while back but that deal isn't going on anymore. I don't know if the frame is really worthy of Record and I know the other parts aren't...heavy wheels, cheap post, stem and bars. Most people will buy this bike to strip it IMO. They should hang Centaur or Veloce on this bike and not change anything else other than the price (say $900-$1000 for Centaur)...that would be more fitting.

It's a fair deal, but have you ridden Campy yet to even see if you like it? I would do that first before I ordered something.

+1 it feels far different than Shimano. I actually didn't like the shape of the Campy hoods for months. Now I won't go back to Shimano though.

I rode a campy chorous bike several years ago..around 96-97 .. was some of the first sti type shifters they did.. It was smooth and it indexed differently.. kind of loud I thought....

This is new 10 speed Record... I am 50 yr old cat 5... I am thinking of the value.. and then possibly changing frame in a year or so.. maby cross it... or build someting like a beater or a Mobile ot of it.. The record gruppo would be very reliable i wouyld think

Yeah, people will buy this to strip it and get the parts. Same deal with bikesdirect kind of places. The thing I don't like about them is how they say all this stuff about "lengendary Bottechia" bikes...when in reality they just probably license the name just like BD does with motobecane...

Oh yeah, definitely reliable. It's just that some people HATE the Campy shifters. I just would hate to see you not like the transformation from Shimano to Campy.

GRASSCHOPPER is it really that bad of a frame??? I called the guy and he says he stands behind 17.4 lbs ready to roll.... I have and am riding currently a CANNONDALE crit frame that is about 20years old (the ones with the Cantilevered rear triangle.... and the 1" headtube).... its got to be an improvment over that??? you think??.

I figure I could ride this thing a year or so (hopfully 20k miles) and then ... maybe find a better frame.. I got a LBS here close, that sells BMC's that are soooo sweet it hurts.. but they are massive $$$$$

Just FYI, this is another BikesDirect company or whatever you want to call it. Other BD "fronts" on ebay includes sprtymama. There are others, I'm sure.

I've been riding the Bottecchia almost every day since I got it a month ago and like it very much. There are posts out there by other cyclists who are riding theirs and it's all pretty favorable. It is a very good value, an altogether nice bike for just the price of the Campy parts.
