I know nothing about the ECCC. What makes the win, or the race weekend, historic?

It's historic because in all of Columbia Cycling's history (no idea how far back it goes), the team has never, ever won a weekend series. Light blue FTW!

the ECCC is the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference. It is normally the strongest performer at nationals, of the 10 collegiate conferences.

The ECCC teams race three times over each weekend during their season. They take part in time trials, team time trials, criteriums and road races.

Columbia beat defending national champion Penn State over this weekend and several other big state schools like U. of New Hampshire and U. of Vermont. Yes, sports at Columbia generally suck. But this team definately does not.

Again, they actually got worked by most of those teams. Add up the A scores and get back to us.

Not to mention, Penn State was 4th last year. Also, there were 3 schools from the RMCCC in the top 10, 2 from the MWCCC in there, 2 from the WCCC, 1 from the SECCC, and then Midwestern State, which belongs some other conference. So, that is hardly the strongest conference.

Umm looks to me like the fact that PSU only had 2 women start in the crit and RR had a rather pronounced affect...Columbia had 5?

Eh whatever...good for Columbia...and GOOOOO State.

Thanks for the response, though I didn't need the full rundown of how collegiate cycling works.

As Duke said, the other conferences are strong too. From what I've seen racing in the WCCC and MWCCC, there are some really good riders all around.

The ECCC seems to have, from what I can tell, a lot of teams competing in the conference, which might give them a wider pool of talent from which to draw.

In any case, good for Columbia.

Columbia's two best Men's A racers weren't even there this weekend. See the results for the week before (e.g. two top tens in the crit).
