You could really do better in the UC system, in terms of biking. Once you get out of the city, there is some decent biking in the LA area. The team is decent - not the best in the WCCC, but pretty good.
I'll let someone else who knows more about them chime in. To be honest, I can't really remember much about them despite going to every race weekend.

OP: Irvine is a great place to ride. There are plenty of rides in the area all week long. Post in the SoCal forum for more info. Dont know about the UCI team though.
