Just saw those pics. I always get comments about my 'backwards' brake setup. My natural panic brake hand is my right due to learning on motorcycles. I see lots of other people in the photo who should consider swapping brakes.

I fixate on curbs.

I haven't fixated on big trees, 55 gal drums, telephone poles, tall things like that. I didn't even see some of these things ("Wow, you just missed that tree!" "What tree?"). But I fixate on curbs.

The real danger is uncontrolled cerebral hemorrhage if you smack your head in a crash, you're much more prone to that if your blood is thinner from meds like Coumadin.

FWIW: I only crash in training, not in races. You may be going at this wrong.

/note that I'm way past the "knock on wood" phase on this one -- I've been posting about it on bf since 2006

I generally manage to keep my bicycle upright when left to my own devices. Plus I have learned a lesson from every solo crash, which has helped me avoid subsequent crashes. But you never know. I've banged my head pretty good crashing bicycles (two concussions) and so far, no brain hemorrhaging. Giro helmets do appear to work.

Yeah, same here on the solo crash learning experience, in general.

My last crash (the concussion) was bad. Nobody knows how I went down, but we're thinking it was a wildlife collision. Since I went over the bars in the middle of a bike lane, it doesn't appear that I just passed out or something. Didn't learn a damned thing from it. I believe I forgot lots of stuff though.

On a mountain switchback in CO, I had a big buck (mule deer) fall 6 ft off the cutaway cliff onto the road in front of me. He seemed mostly ok (busted some antler). I'm really glad I wasn't on a personal record pace up that climb on that day.

This critter that I may have hit was probably something more like an armadillo. There wasn't any fur on my front wheel or anywhere near the scene (my training partners arrived 1' after I crashed, and some stayed after the ambulance left to see if they could figure out wtf).

I did a hill climb race on Saturday - beautiful weather. This was my first climbing race in over a year. My wireless PT crapped out on the way to the starting line. It turns out the batteries went dead. I took a video of the climb and planned to overlay the performance metrics. Oh well.

Here I am in the race that I trained all year for - 2nd oldest bike race in the world after L-B-L (and was the longest UCI one day road race until it was shortened a couple of years ago), the 262km Melbourne to Warrnambool.

I am in the black kit with white cap - here we are turning into a ridiculous crosswind - 201 starters, 61 DNF. The crosswind saw a selection of 20 get away - second place getter (Nathan Haas) will be riding for Garmin Cervello next year - watch out for him!

Glad with how I went - this is 160km in. Tried to work with a group echeloning across the road @ 47km/h and got completely shelled. Finished 93rd overall, 14th in my grade and actually picked up 3rd at one of the sprint points which I was most happy about!

Great looking jersey, even though it is "old". (Did "Dirty" Dave lend it to you?)

I didn't know that you were on BF. See you at the Big Lou's next Monday at the team meeting.
