aww, thanks!

i actually saw it earlier but didn't want to post it as i had just posted something a few pages back.

btw, are you racing any of the crits closer to the DC area (mainly the northern VA races)?

Jandro 06-05-13 10:12 AM

Hey chappi, I approve of your choice in bar tape color.

Not sure. If it wasn't clear, I'm just starting out so I'm a CAT 5.

I signed up for the Road Warrior race in Howard County on the 29th. I know there's Tyson's GP the following day.

^nice shot echappist.

I'm interested to see what the How County Race is all about, I ride out there quite a bit.

Tyson's is a fun race, glad it's back on the calender, it used to always be the first sunday in April. Good breakaway course for an Ind park criterium, but the real gem of the local calender is Reston Town Center GP on 6/23. My favorite crit.

Then there's the district champs on 7/6 up in Hagerstown, that's a good course too - through a neighborhood, good spectating in a park; age graded is the next day but i havent seen the course yet, I'm hoping it's the old Baker Park crit course, that was a super fun crit that disappeared from the calender.

Add the giro di coppi, Page Valley RR, and lost river, and then T of Millersburg. We've got a nice calender from now until mid August.:)

Thanks MDCatV

i'm thinking of doing perhaps all of the crits, especially Tyson, though too bad the 1/2/3 race is before the 3 race.

i think you forgot to mention that the Tyson Course is an 8-corner course of doom. Should be fun, though i think some team may just drill it for 20 minutes and see who is able to hang on.

Also, i looked at the ToWC kickoff crit. Damn, those are some narrow streets.

MDcatV 06-05-13 11:48 AM

^reston is an 8 corner crit, it's what i'd call quasi-technical. you can really rail all the turns.

tysons is a 3 turn triangle unless they've changed the course<?>

i've never done the kickoff crit, it's relatively new and with friday traffic/early start of ToWC next day, i've never worked it in.

my bad. yes, Tyson is the 3 turn (though it looks like a figure-D), and Reston is the figure-8 course-of-death

which races would you be at again? not that i could a)stay on your wheel or b)get any draft off of you ;)

MDcatV 06-05-13 01:17 PM

off the top of my head, my racing schedule is:

clarendon crit this saturday
church creek #1, TT; yuck but it's the team sponsored event
Reston
whatever the howard county road race is called
Tysons
Hagerstown (district champ crit)
Age graded crit (wherever it ends up - youre too little for this one ha, ha)
coppi
miller school (age graded RR, not sure if there's a race there for you youngin's or not, but you'd like, very hilly)
Lost river (masters, I hate this race, it's too hard for a fatty like me)
Page valley district RR championships
this is about when wife threatens to leave me
Tour of Millersburg
Church Creek TT #2
Dawg Days crit
wife threatens divorce
season over

where will i see you?

echappist 06-05-13 01:33 PM

I'll be doing Reston (hopefully doubling up), Tyson (cat 3 only), Hagerstown (doubling up if possible), Lost River, and Page Valley.

If you were doing crystal city i'd come out and cheer for you as it's literally a mile (or less) away.

i'll get shelled in the free-for-all that is Miller School as some strong cat-1 will blow up the field.

Wow, haven't posted to this thread since 2010! Nice to see it's still going.

I thought I was suffering at this point:

WTF did I know? The real suffering started later:

First pic is on the false flat just past the crest of a 10-minute climb, I'm *just* OTB and trying to get back on before the descent. Second pic is after we rode into a freak snowstorm and the whole thing turned from a race into more of a survival exercise. It was sunny at the start line! It took me 4 hours to stop shivering after getting back to the car, 5 racers ended up in the hospital with hypothermia. From a masters race last month in Palencia, Spain (about 2 hours north of Madrid)

Let me know next time you are in town? That ride this spring was fun.

Flatballer 06-07-13 08:43 PM

That's a pretty badass picture in the snow. Not Hampsten badass, but still cool.

I think you need to distinguish between "fun" and fun. Races like that are "fun"; spring ride with friends is fun.

I'm in Seattle from mid-July through Labor Day, planning to race Cascade and the LWV series, maybe a MTB race or two.

mattm 06-08-13 10:31 AM

Hey Forrest, nice pics!

See ya at Cascade.

Tulsa Tough, Cat 1/2, Cry Baby Hill. For anyone who hasn't been, this is a must do event! The scene is unlike anything I've been a part of on my bike.

Heard it is an incredible event (much like the Gateway Series in your hometown)...

McTufferton 06-10-13 10:28 AM

Take the Giro dela Montagne (The Hill) and multiply its spectators times 5, easily. This is for all three days of Tulsa Tough, not just Cry Baby Hill.

Really? Cool.
Giro was a lot of fun. Sat in front of the Church shooting the breeze with some non-cyclists who were really interested in learning about the sport.

shovelhd 06-10-13 10:41 AM

It's on my bucket list. My coach thinks I'm nuts. I would have to race P/1/2.
