Rock Hill Omnium ROLL CALL

Ok, who's gonna be there?

I keep getting email from the race organizers inviting me to let my teammates know about this event and yet I also know that they 5 field is being split due to popularity.

So who from this forum will be there and in what field will you be racing?

I'm 50/50 right now...if the weather forecast clears up, I'll be there :)

substructure 04-10-07 07:26 AM

I'm doing the road race on Sunday.

Cat 4/5 masters 35-44

I'm undecided I'm kind of split between racing for the college and racing @ rock hill.

I might see you there. I've only entered 8 races but just requested an upgrade to Cat4. If I get it, I'll likely enter the Cat4/5 Masters 35-44 races. As it stands now, I'm signed up for the Cat5s.

I might. Have you done it before? If so is it worth a 3.5 hour drive? I will have no teammates so I kind of feel like blowing it off but then if it's a good race I'll come down.

BTW registration ends today

This will be my first time. It's a pretty popular event around here from what I understand.

The crit course is downtown and is really fun. It's a backwards lower case 'r' shape.

The start/finish is an uphill and leads into a narrow left turn. The next two turns are close together and can be taken with one apex if you stay a bit outside. You will also be able to hold your speed through it this way. The straight after turn 3 rises slightly, then peaks at the intersection and the pavement changes to new tarmac. Turn 4 leads to the long backstretch, which is a pretty big downhill and very wide. Turn five is a right that narrows from 4 lanes to 2 with a median on the outside. Turn 6 is still 2 lanes and the start finish is about 225 meters up the little hill to the finish. Get to the front on the top or back stretch, as you won't move up in the last two turns.

Great course! I won't be in attendance this year, as the wife is 9 months preggo and could go at any time. The way my luck runs, she'll call when I'm lining up!:D

I raced Masters 1/2/3 last years and finished 9th.

It's a really good event. I'll be there for the whole omnium (looking for upgrade points). At least one of my teammates will also be there for the omnium, and we have a number of other folks coming down for the crit and/or RR. The RR looks like fun! Not quite 3000 feet of climbing per lap. I like it :)

Edit: Damocles1, thanks for the map and details.

branman1986 04-11-07 05:06 AM

dah, I missed the signup...I was feeling like taking it easy this weekend anyways :D

jfmckenna 04-11-07 06:41 AM

^^ race day sign up should be available except for the street sprints.

Indeed. Race organizers have certainly hinted at this in the email they've been sending out.

IMO, the street sprints aren't even worth doing. It was a bit dangerous last year and there's just too much time between heats to stay warm enough to keep the engine running.

I signed up for the masters 45+ 4/5 RR. The weather forecast has planted a seed of doubt - rain, cold, 20+ mph winds. The fact that we're doing this for fun and and a $20 payout makes it harder to drive 4 hours and then need to clean up the bike big-time.

Anybody know how many feet of climbing there was in that road race?
