Seat position and muscle activation
With the search being down, I had to start a new thread.
Generally, what is the relationship between foreward/aft seat position and muscle group utilization? More forward = more quads, and more aft = more hamstrings and glutes? Or do I have it backwards? Or is there no relationship?

Yes you have it right. Plus - glutes are stronger (aft) for power but relatively more quad use (forward) is more efficient for the long haul. Within a range, mind you.

I think the lower leg usage has more to do with seat height. The lower the seat, the more heal drop and calf use. The higher the seat, the more the toes are pointed and the more the front of the leg gets used.

OP, you have it right. Also take into account that the steeper the road pitch gets the more your glutes, and hamstrings start to work. This is the reason why your LT is higher when climbing then when you are on level ground.... your body is pushing more blood for these muscle groups as well as your back and arms are used for more support as the road pitches skyward.
I tend to have my cleats as far back as they go to use the bigger muscle groups (hamstings and glutes)
