Is anyone returning to base miles during the race season?

I am curious if anyone will be aborting the heavy race season to return to building aerobic base?
I was tentatively planning to do this from the outset to be prepared for some sept races I want to do, but now that the races are happening, I am having second thoughts. It seems really difficult to pull myself away from the routine of intervals/tempo and a couple races a week. Anyone going for the "multiple peak" season?

I am not very good with training plans but shooting for a multi-peak season is the goal of most I think. I don't belive you have to stop all intensity and go back to lsd for this but a little rest break might be called for.

Depending on the race schedule....haven't found anything good so far for July/August, so I will probably do that for a bit in that time to prep for the fall season of races and kicking ass on century rides .

I'm finishing up base three and starting build after a rest week next week. My current coach wanted me to get more of a base since I had lost some time earlier this year when I got the flu and then started a new gig...there are plenty of things in northern cal to peak for since the season goes until september.

May is peak month, but not peaking again until end of September beginning of October. June is transition and return to base.

Ahhhh don't think that way, you can get there GW. All you'd have to do is race every weekend

Yeah, but endurance-wise, I'm not ready for those longer races yet....I still have less than 2 years of riding in my legs. When I pre-rode the Jiminy Peak course on Saturday, my legs ran out of gas at the 1 hour 45 min. mark....the last 15 minutes were basically fat-burning miles. Still managed 37.3 miles in 2 hours and 33 seconds, average of around 18.6 mph with a 10-15 mph headwind in parts on Rte. 43.

BTW, Route 7 sucks. I hate that stretch. Looks flat, but it isn't.

I'm not really in a rush....I have 9 races picked out for the year so far, and am happy with that. Will try to find a 10th so I can upgrade next season.
