Zipp 404's I mean. Rode them in anger today for the first time on the Nyack ride. I was @ the edge of detonating at the top of the Col Du Blue Hill (that's about a .8 mile climb up into Pearl River in the middle of the ride) but managed to hang on. I'm not sure I would have without the Zipps. They sure make that bicycle feel a bit faster, particularly @ high speed on the flats or descending, but climbing too. They do work as advertised. And every anecdotal report from people who have tried them or who own them seems to concur with that observation.

When I got home I put my Ksyrium ES rear wheel with D.A. cluster on the digital scale followed by a similarly equipped Zipp 404. The Zipp rear was a full 8oz. lighter. That's consistent with a 10-12 oz. weight savings overall, most of that rotating weight. Add in the enhanced aero factor of those 58mm deep carbon rims and there you go.

Patentcad has sipped the Zipp Kool Aid. There is no turning back.

Worth $1950? That was over my head, but these $1200 one year old eBay set works just fine. And frankly the slower you are, the more you may need them.

More importantly I got to see Killer Penguin in action. That kid is skinny and fast. Depressingly so, but he's such a nice guy you can accept it. A good time was had by all, and we both avoided the inevitable (but rare) annual Nyack Crash, which did occur today. I think one regular may have broken a collarbone, but everyone else rode home.

The Nyack Laugher of the year did occur when Walter (the guy with the suspect broken collarbone) yelled at my pal Gary (who Walter blamed for the crash for actually stopping at a STOP sign) in his full blown NY Latin accent : WHAT ARE JU A ROOOKIEE????!!?? Gary passively looked at him with his Gary-like Zen and said nothing. He's been racing for nearly 20 years, was leading in the NY Spring Series Vets points until a couple of weeks ago, had just finished 6th in this morning's Vets race in Brooklyn and was doing the Nyack ride AFTER competing in Prospect Park. So no, Gary is not a roookiee.

But I digress. Zipps rule.

That's a good price. I turn 40 next year. Sounds like an appropriate birthday present.

Placebo effect. And I say that as a Zipp owner, so you're going to have to edit your statement to read "almost every".

They should have issued you a keyboard blocker that would keep you from using the letters Z-I-P-P. For the love of god how many of these inane threads are you going to start over your wheels? Okay so you got a so so deal on your wheels. FWIW I paid 1100 bucks for a brand new set of Reynolds Stratus which beat the pants off of your beloved Zipps. Yet you don't see me starting new threads after every ride. Get over it!

Incorrect.

That was a sub-plot of the thread.

The primary storyline is how bad I suck.

'Deluding myself' is clearly an oxymoron in my case.

So what's your point?

Mr. Rensho,

I'm pretty sure our man patentcad is making all of these posts thoroughly tongue in cheek. I mean, there's no way he isn't. The posts are so rife with silliness that it's obvious he isn't taking anything too seriously, if he takes it seriously at all...perhaps you should follow
