Lower Providence Race report - A 5 no more

I raced the cat5A race yesterday. I had good legs and stayed near the front. Some sketchy moves especially in the turns. I don't understand why people want to take 90 degree turns 5 and 6 wide or suddenly swing wide to dive into a turn. On the 2nd to last lap there was a nasty crash , I heard the chilling sounds of carbon and aluminum hitting the asphalt but never looked back. One guy was carted away in the ambulance.

Bell rings and I am sitting 9th or 10th, I stayed patient and after the final turn I was out front, not where I wanted to be cause it was still too far to sprint to the finish. I looked to the inside and no one was moving up, so I said WTH and put my head down and went for it. About 100m from the line a guy comes around from my left, I never saw/heard him, I tried to hang on but he beat me and I finished 2nd out of 66. I was pleased with that result.

I spoke to the official from the USCF and he agreed to let me move up to Cat4. So I registered for the 4 with hopes of just hanging on. I was the only 5 on my team so finally I am able to race with some teamates. There was a big field for the 4's. Suprisingly I felt pretty good. With 5 or so laps to go there was a 3 man break off the front, I bridged the gap pulling a few teamates and a bunch of the field with me. My teamate thanked me as I was dying and he stayed near the front to take the win, another teamate got 2nd and another 4th. I was shot and stayed in the pack finishing near the back of the main field at 43rd.

I was pleased to play a part in the win and finish in the pack in my first cat4 race and after racing the 5 earlier that morning.

Sorry for the long report.

That is awesome that you did so well in both races. congrats! It seemed like there was a crash in every race. The crash in the 3/4 race looked pretty nasty too.

Thanks. Yeah I believe that guy in the 3/4 went to the hospital as well. Will you be doing any of the races in lancaster county this year?
