Start your Cat 4 career with the 3/4 race at Poolesville and report back.

whenever i finish in the pack, no matter how unrealistic it may be, I always feel like if I just went a little harder I could have won/placed/whatever.

I know how you feel. It took me 3 training races to figure out how to stay with the A group (mainly: "Stop screwing around in breakaways when you're riding with pros, dumbass."). Now that I can finish with the As, I feel like I need to do a little more. It's just not enough to finish with them.

One week I went back to the Bs and pwned them: shattered the pack with a break, then easily won the bunch sprint. That wasn't very satisfying either.

Now I think I will work on getting better position in the As, since I'm pretty sure I can sprint with those guys if I can get a good position. Sometimes I'll ride the Bs to practice attacking like crazy (because I suck at it) -- but not allow myself to bunch sprint with them, because that's just sandbagging (won't learn anything nor gain training in a Bs bunch sprint).

For you riskus, 4s and 3s don't present a ceiling. You will eventually be the fast guy in those categories, so you really should expect more of yourself as time goes on, and you should start to test yourself and never get comfortable.

No, I know what you mean. I guess the only thing to do is focus on what you thought was your weakness and train it for the next time.

Actually I dont think you understand what I am getting at. I am saying that myself saying "I will be happy just finishing with the pack" is lying to myself because in reality I will not be happy if I am strong enough to finish in the pack because I could have done better.

ahhh I misread your last response.

I need to work on my weakness of being weak minded and afraid of failure.

I get what you're saying riskus. I'm the same way, except I always tell myself I expect a win instead of lying to myself.

I had a bunch of really good placings last year, but because I didn't win I was always really dissappointed with my performance. And when I won a race, I still tore myself apart. I kept telling myself the field wasn't that big or that strong so it was a hollow victory. And, I told myself that winning by 4 minutes (shameless plug for my awesomeness ) wasn't nearly enough.

My point? If you're driven, you may never be happy with how you do. Try to seperate happiness from what you expect out of yourself. Turn dissappointment into constructive self criticism.

Hey Riskus. Just read Patentcads post http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=291596 A little perspective.

On the otherhand, A little disapointment goes a long way to making the great great.

So go out there and get your disapointments so you can enjoy your triumphs.

I will be happy just finishing with the pack
depends.

i've been in a fair share of races where i wasn't so much 'happy finishing with the pack', but fed up with the pack, but not strong enough to ride away from them, so i sit up in the sprint and let the idiots duke it out.
