My first race was a Citizen's race in 1991. I failed to clip into my pedal and spent 4 laps chasing the pack. Never caught them, but they did not lap me, I was not DFL and I did not DNF. I did a few more Citizen's races in 1992.
Got my USCF license in 1993, #59008. And now I'm actually using the friggin thing again.

CRASH!
I hit a gravel shoulder and my bike handling skills were, shall we say, in their infancy.

My first USCF race was a roller race and I finished something like 8th out of 15 or 16. And there were some 2s and 3s out there! Of course roller races don't really mean much...
I was doing pretty well in my first Cat 5 road race until there was a pile-up in front of me. I could barely walk without motrin for two days after that.
My first day at the track was so-so, but the next week I took third overall.
