Alexandria ohio Road Race

Ahh man what a day for a race, it dont get no beter than this. The race was just outside town on rolling hills with a sketchy downhill that needed to be respected right into a good climb to the finish.

We had a total of 4 women show up to race. A 15 year old , Brook, two team menbers from the Raisin Rack and me. We took off with the 5 open guys but that did not make any difference for the rest of us other than Brook who dominated. I was promply droped on the first climb as I could not breath at all with asthma problems. You could hear me breathing 100 yds away.

Well, you would think my day was over. Nope not yet. I did not see another rider for the first lap and on the second I did catch a glimps of two riders a mile ahead of me. I kept cranking and actually caught them before the third lap. What do you know, the team members. I drafted for a few miles to rest my legs and pulled for a short bit untill we started back into the rolling hills. I managed to stay with them untill the climb before the start finish and was droped for a short time.

My breathing let up a bit and I was cranking for all I was worth and bridged the gap. I was close enough to hear the one tell the other to GO ! Ohh man, I gotta keep cranking and she has a gap on me . I caught her and we go flying into the down hill. I shifted down so I would be in a good climbing gear as I was right on her. When I started cranking comming out of the turn I discovered I was too low on the rear cassette and spun out and was screwed for the climb and she pulled away from me.

I still gave it all I was worth and she had a good lead on me. I finished 3rd and nearly hurled after the finish. It was a good day.

Note; when I got home I discovered a flat on the rear. Hmmm.

You made up a mile gap!? Holy Jesus! Sounds like a good race. What's your steed?

A Specialized Roubaix. That was the hardest I have ever pushed myself and a bike. At one point we were going 33+ mph. I am absolutely thrilled with a third.
