South Mountain Hill Climb (PA)

Anyone doing the South Mountain Hill Climb this Sunday? http://www.pabikeracing.com/SouthMountain.html
It's a seven mile long, mass start time trial. 1300' elevation gain. They ran it once in April and the winner did it in 26 minutes and change, which is damn fast.

I've ridden the hill a few times solo at what I thought was a good pace but my times have sucked in comparison to the times posted for the field last race. I only hope the mass start part means there is some good drafting the first relatively flat three miles.

I'd like to do this at least one time, but not this Sunday.

My experience in the High Point (NJ) TT, 5.5 miles, 1300' vertical gain was this: my own personal fastest time in training was 31:30. My time @ the TT was 26:39. I was astonished that I actually rode it about 5 mins. faster in the race. That time is relatively slow, but would have put me 25th out of 50 Cat 5's (I raced in the 45+, that was only good for 27th out of 38 starters in that category).

So try the race. You'll be surprised how much faster you might ride on race day with other wheels to chase up that hill. You may never be the fastest rider, but see how you do. You'll never know unless you show up on race day, that's for sure.
