My idea for ending doping!

What if every rider in the tour de france (or any race) had a bike equipped with a power meter and each rider had an upper "Energy Limit" they were allowed to expend either during a stage or throughout the tour. If a rider exceeds the limit then they are penalized. The limit would be low enough that a "clean" rider could reach it yet high enough to allow for a fast paced and exciting race. This way even if a rider was doped to the hilt they would be no advantage for that rider. Tactics, teamwork, and skill would become paramount. The only way to cheat would be to tamper with the bike or computer and that would be very easy to detect and prevent. If the computers were remotely monitored with the data being displayed on the TV screen during the race it would be fascinating to watch. There could be team energy limits as well as individual limits and I supposed the energy limit would have to be proportional to the weight and size of each rider.

What do you guys think?

I think that, collectively, we have too much time on our hands.

That means you - the person reading this. YOU have too much time on your hands if you're reading this.

I will take your bicycle as penance for your sins.

It would not work since every person has a different Basal Metabolic rate and operates differently.

It works in auto racing because you can control engine displacement, manifold sizes, cylinder numbers, turbo boost, etc. You can't tell a rider they are too tall and have to chop off 3 inches of their height or their quads are too big and have to skin off some muscle.

I honestly think the best doping control is no doping control. Yeah it does make the rich richer and poor poorer and even with all the drugs, there is a limit to how much power a human body can produce.

Oh, and if any of you have some nice CF deep-dish rims laced to a Powertap SL, you'll need extra penance.

I have an equally relevant and workable solution.

Everybody has to ride with a monkey and a deck of cards. You have to hold the cards while not letting the monky poop on the road. If it does, you have to hold a pineapple as well. If the monkey makes you drop the cards you have to carry a 30 metre garden hose and whistle your country's national anthem for the duration of the stage.

Simple.

So, how high were you when you came up with this idea? I mean, like on a scale of 1 to 10.

With 1 being you only smoked 3 joints of ditch weed and 10 being "Huh? Whoa..."

I don't know if that would work, or if it would just up the ante.
Threat of jail time does not seem to hinder recreational drug use at all.

but you're forgetting that different people put out different power numbers based on their size. Your method is unfair to big guys. To keep the races fair for everyone there needs to be a speed limit.

That's right

A speed limit

in a race

This way nobody will do drugs.

it's the only way
