Giro TT Stage 20 Spoiler

Dave Z wins easily

Anyone notice where he has ended up the last three-four days, groupetto or next to last, saving it all for the TT.

Mazzoleni is gunning for the podium, so that motivation just might take him to a TT win as well. But hard to bet against the Z.

Is Pinotti is a former Italian TT champ? He might have a shot. How good is Schleck? He should be motivated.

I must admit, I'm kind of reaching though -- Dave should have an excellent shot in that field.

I am the only one who thinks that VR's should give the same coverage for the Giro as they do for the Tour. Personally I find the Giro more compelling as the climbs are harder and more frequent. I'm not so sure about DZ, I'd like to see him win but he's been a little off this season.

You're not alone...I wish the Giro got as much coverage as the TdF.

Same here. I've always been a fan of the Giro for a long, long time. The scenery is gorgeous, the mountains are tough, and the riders seem to be more active.

VR's?

I'm very much with you. I find it astonishing that they pull any ratings with fishing show after fishing gear show after rodeo after fishing gear show. Even if they just showed morning coverage, I'd be thrilled with that. My tivo would get to earn it's keep. Hell, I'd like to see all three grand tours on Vs. Doubt it'll happen, unless we all unleash the mother of all email campaigns.

their ratings suck for the fishings shows, but are much cheaper than a license and crew for the Giro. sad, but le tour is probably the only race they can justify investing in, and those days may be numbered too with no dominant American team or GC contender.

I paid 25 bucks and watched the whole thing online, virtually without problems.

Sure but part of the problem is the tour organizers themselves. They almost seem to not want it publicized outside Italy. Look at letour.com. They've not only got a ton of language options, but it's not mere translations -- they actually have english language reporters, commentators and german, etc. But the Gazetta's Giro site is only in Italian. They don't partner with any other languages. Plus ASO works pretty hard to partner with a ton of other groups to make sure it's followed and seen everywhere they can. Heck, they even sponsor races in Africa and work hard on L'Etape and making it an international affair.

I wish the Giro was much more publicized in the U.S. and shown on TV here but until the organizers make that a priority, it won't happen.

They really don't need a full crew for the Giro, essentially they need an ENG crew. Paul and Phil are under contract and all they have to do is set up an audio feed and one camera man and an editor for the packages. If they do it on the cheap they won't need the set like they use on the Tour, just shoot them as stand ups. Not a huge expense, not much more than the crew they send to the fishing shows or rodeo's. The feed is from the host broadcaster so there is no crew involved there. Yes there will be a rights fee but cycling isn't F1 so it's not going to be huge. What drives the decision is what the sponsors are willing to pay for that time slot. My very educated guess (20 years in broadcast TV) is that they are not willing to pay as much for cycling as they are for the other "sports".

Apparently, Salvodelli had the same idea. I love Il Falco.
