First bike race... need advice

It's in Winghaven, MO... .Cat 5... 6 laps on a 3+ loop course with 4 turns

https://bigshark.com/page.cfm?PageID=486

I am 29 y/o fairly decent shape, Juco distance runner back in 95-96.. + 40 lbs since then... I rode a 21 mile solo TT a week ago (just practice) and my avg speed was around 19 mph... any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Use the "search the forums" function and look up first race or cat 5 race or similar and you'll find more info than you could ever digest before your race.

I've got only one race under my belt, but I'd say go for it. There was a guy in my field who had never been on a group ride, so if he could get out there, you can too.

How much experience do you have riding? Specifically, how much experience do you have riding in groups?
If you done a few rides with reasonably fast folks in a pace line or pack, and are comfortable with that, then go for it.

If you haven't done any reasonably fast paceline work then I really think you owe it to yourselves and others to do some group rides before you enter a race.
