If this were a man looking like that in the pro peloton, I'm sure you'd be more than happy to add your comments about how he didn't look like a typical cyclist.

But thanks anyway for the oh-so-incorrect assumptions. The tea cup line was particularly funny.
There were no assumptions, I was just curious about the tone. I don't care about what people choose to not exercise but I was wondering why people think it's odd about a woman or man having muscles. I see the doping point but I just figured most cyclists neglect the arms (to save weight) and she decided to incorporate a workout or two...or several. Obviously I don't have a tape measurer so I can't say anything and I think low body fat always makes interpretation dicey.

Yeah, some of those short women can really look drugged to the hilt, yet be completely natural. You should see my gymnast-turned-climber friend. Wow. Gorgeous with pipes and all of 4 ft 10 inches. She's asked me if cycling can possibly reduce her overall musculature. After looking at Doc Pete's original post...uh, sorry girl, possibly not.

There is a wide range of naturally occurring testosterone in men, just as in women. My inclination is just to believe she's been "blessed" with a large supply of the man juice. The reason I tend to believe that is I spent many many years as a gym rat and there was just as much variety in body type and musculature in women as in men; and ours was a clean gym.

One might suggest that with the time it would take someone to develop upper body like the person in the photo there wouldn't be enough time left in the day to get in the mileage needed to be a pro cyclist. Unless they don't sleep.

I don't think she's a man. She's a powerful woman and probably a bit of a wildcat. Rowr!

For me it is for the same reason I find it odd when I see a man with breasts.

There are quite a lot of women who are capable of developing muscles-- it's just that it's culturally very discouraged. I have a friend who's an ex-gymnast turned track cyclist turned speed skater and occasional rock climber. She's a mesomorph and totally ripped, with a serious case of speedskater's ass. And she's very clean.

I know a lot of elite women cyclists and there are is just as much body type variation as in men.

What the hell are you talking about? I was responding to a post about why people find it odd when they see a muscular woman.

she's fairly muscular but so what? some women are naturally stockier. anyone can develop big muscles with hard enough targeted training. if you want to see her racing and winning there is video from criterium here

Do you have brain damage?

I never used the word abhorrent, or EVER implied there was anything wrong with muscular women. You just don't see it nearly as often.

I'll change my wording for those of you sitting in Mrs. Krebopple's 6th grade class.
"For me it is for the same reason I find it odd when I see a man IN A DRESS".

Now excuse me please, I have to go opress some women and discourage them from becomming athletes.

Yes. Don't make fun of people with brain damage.

Of course, you're not implying there's anything wrong with a man IN A DRESS either.
