Best laid plans of mice and men

I've been looking forward to this weeken'ds racing all week, with a 72 km RR today, which featured a 3 km uphill finish, putting me in strong contention for a placing, and followed with my club's annual TT championships tomorrow (40 km flat TT, my chance to have a real crack at sub 1-hour).

Had a good start today at the RR, cruising downhill at around 45-50 km/h, come round a sweeping left curve and the road just suddenly ends. Completely un-signposted T-junction where we're supposed to make a sharp left (> 90 degrees, I haven't done this course before).

I hit the front brakes, trying to slow down, and next thing I know I'm flying through the air backwards, and then lying in the road with my bike landing on top of me. The corner marshall says I hit a pothole whilst braking, and I must have grabbed the brake a little hard, cos I locked up the front wheel, and did a full somersault, with the bike flying up in the air, me sliding about 10 meters along the road and the bike landing on top of me.

Total cost: ~$300 worth of cycling gear (saddle, jersey, leg warmers, nix)

I have road rash on my back, right shoulder, right arm, and right hip. Hoping I'm going to be better for the State TT Champs next weekend.

Hey, all your bones are still in the correct layout, right?

Heal well.
