Hushovd's Speed

41 MPH....66 KPH....I am sure there are faster but to me that is pretty fast. I do that going down a hill....these riders humble me as do the local racers...

I am glad he won today...he seems like a very good guy. I met him at Interbike and he was very cool then....talkative and very approachable...

All the pics I've ever seen of Thor make him look huge. What does he look like in person? He has one of the coolest names in the peloton...

I'm curious - how long do these guys sustain that speed?

He is aclually small....I was surprised but I am a big guy so most people are small but he was by no means BIG...

Magnus Backstedt, he was shockly large.....equally surprised....

Girlfriend

Me

He was bigger than I expected....

He was smaller than I expected....

Sorry no pic of Thor.....but I would like to say that everyone I met was way nice....I met David Z and his girlfriend and they were both great....Freddy R. I think they were all amazed that I was so not what they thought of as a normail cyclist yet I knew who they were....

I hope to go again next year....

Whats the wind like in France? Yesterday, I was going down a pretty steep hill into a hard headwind and might of not even hit 40mph.

DELETE POST, I'm tired, didn't post refresh, and took a different meaning from your post, my apologies biff. I think I realized why Ryan took an offset meaning from my original post, I dropped the " 's " from the word "what's" and it was possibly construed as an attack against an earlier post, I fixed the word.

I think sprints are in the 40-almost 50mph.

Depends on the profile of the last 1 k or so. To reach speeds of more than 40 mph the sprint has to be finish has to be at least somewhat flat. Slightly uphill obviously slower and downhill faster. Fast Fred Rodriguez was clocked at 48 mph in a sprint win at the T d Georgia on a downhill finish. Most things I have read say that 42-43 mph is about tops for a truly flat sprint finish.

Nope. Robbie, in an interview, said the max was 70km/h, and they rarely hit that. Last night was a fast sprint, picture perfect execution by Julian Dean and Thor. Unlike Quickstep where Tom Boonen can't outsprint his lead-out

From cyclingnews.com's Tour 101 page this year,

"Again, the speeds encountered in bunch sprints vary depending on the type of finish; however the winners in previous stages of the Tour de France have reached speeds in excess of 70 kilometres an hour. Now that's movin'."

For the math challenged 70 kph = about 43 mph. Iknow I have seen Cippo clocked at over 42 mph.

What about sprinter cadences? It seems when ever I stand up to go my cadence drops a lot.

Today's sprint was won at just under 80 kph! That's 49.6 mph! As to cadence those guys can just really wind it up. Probably 120 rpm+.

130+ actually. Still nothing compared to track sprinters.
