Team Slipstream 2008?

I guess no announcements til Sept 1 but supposedly Hincapie is a done deal for T-Mobile next year; I wouldn't be surprised if he changes his mind. Procycling mag rumor mill has Zabriskie, Vande Velde and Millar going to Slipstream. I think that'd be a good place for Fast Freddie too.

Who do you like on an American Superteam? Even English-speaking foreigners.

T-Mobile is now seriously considering dropping its sponsorship after the most recent flap with one of its riders. When German TV decides to stop covering the Tour, it cannot be good for a German based team.

It has not been brought up too much yet, but I have a feeling this year there will be more rider, team, sponsorship changes than we have ever seen. The entire Pro-Tour could be absolutely altered to the point where few teams are recognizeable.

Who knows: Hincapie may decide to join Slipstream or even Health.Net is Health.Ner decides to move up as well. They can only dominate the US Division for so long.

Wait, Slipstream is ready to enter the ProTour? HealthNet, too?

I don't see Healthnet happening. They have no business interests outside the US.

Slipstream is gunning for entry by 2009. I don't think Healthnets lack of outside US interests is going to stop it from going ProTour, it would only mean more US exposure for being so much higher on the totem pole.

What's so sad about this is one idiot screwed this pooch. Observationally this is one of the least "prepared" TDF's in a while. Every other sports league just buries this, cycling is making some honest efforts and as a reward some CEO decides to bail. It's Catch 22.

In the meantime we are bombarded with ED medication ads, cholesterol med ads, weight loss supplement ads, "male enhancement" ads...

With so many teams possibly changing for the next season, I think it would be interesting to see a team like Health Net or Slipstream enter the ProTour sometime in the future.

I would love to see Fast Freddie ride in the United States more than he does right now, but has he mentioned whether or not he wants to remain in Europe? I don't think he'd have many issues getting signed to a continental team.

I think they are cleaner this year too. I was pretty ticked off when Al Trautwig and Bobke went on and on about the slow average speeds of early flat stages. Hello? They're humanoids now.

At the same time when I first read about T-Mobile's new anti-drug policy over the winter I thought it all sounded a bit too holier than thou. There was talk Kloden left because he didn't want to submit to all the demands.

.
Don't be shocked if they do. T-Mobile is actually about 30% government owned via stock.

Because they'd get a better ROI spending the same amount on tv commercials and stadium billboards.

US Postal service operates in foreign countries. They were trying to increase their business share in these markets and it worked.

Please tell me the foreign country where I can mail using the United States Postal system.

The US Postal system only operates in the United States. Sure you can mail packages to foreign countries from here using the USPS, but you cannot mail packages from a foreign country using the US Postal Service. Just as there are no Chinese or British postal offices here, there are no US Postal offices in Europe or any other country. Once your package goes to the foreign country it is direct to, the foreign country's postal service takes it from there.

So - the exposure had nothing to do with increasing the business with foreign customers.

As I was implying - they wanted to increase exposure with US customers, whether or not they ship packages to foreign countries.

Slipstream seems to be a pretty good bet for a Pro Tour License in '09 and possible a TdF wildcard next year if they can sign DZ, Vandevelde and Millar.

I don't see Healthnet going anywhere. They have not taken any steps to move to the Pro Tour and they don't have the young talent that Slipstream has.

I have wondered about Health.Net. They seem content I guess to remain on the US Circuit, and have become kind of a retirement home for older Australian riders.

But from an exposure standpoint - just 1 Tour De France will give them many times more exposure than riding around to all these little under-exposed crits.

Healthnet is definitely not built for long stage rages. JV has built a pretty solid team in the past couple of years and Slipstream's internal doping testing is a major plus in the eyes of the UCI.

I don't think they really had one, other than Lance and his U.S. publicity. That's why they didn't renew their contract.

incorrect.

usps was a sponsor before LA, and before LA was even a tour contender.

HealthNet isn't going anywhere. Corbett and the rest of the management are extremely happy with the setup they have. As a retirement home, get your facts straight. The oldest guy on the team this year is O'Neill, and he's 33. They are in a rebuilding phase, but will probably have a big name or two next year...(inside scoop).

I’ll bet Rock Racing is going to pick up a pro tour rider (or two) next year.

They're going to need more than one to have any effect. They're almost purely a crit team now.

The USPS investment returned dollars on the pennies. Huge bang for the buck. They didn't renew for the same reason you don't see "Where's The Beef?" commercials anymore. Ad campaign had achieved market saturation and they were at a point of diminishing returns.
