Wasa Wecovewy

When you feel like Wasa from too much riding/racing how do you Wecover?

My riding this week: Monday 25 miles easy, Tues/Wed completely off, Thursday typical intervals (45 mi), Friday 30 mi easy.
Thinking about an easy 60 mi tomorrow and a hard ride Sunday. That's a pretty light week for me.

put your schedule here:

just ride how you feel for a few weeks. fast, slow, steady, not at all, whatever feels right at the time. then you can get back to your schedule. trust me, it will help.

For me back to back days off are never a good thing, even during recovery weeks. And if you're doing recovery you shouldn't be doing intervals, period.

My recovery weeks are usually light 30-90 minute rides, zone 1 or below. I might go 2 hours max.

Recovery is where you get stronger so max it out like you do on the road.

1. Soak in a hot tub for a few hours (if you don't plan on impregnating anyone)
2. Memory foam mattress, merino wool mattress cover, high thread count sheets, seasonal down comforter, silence and a sleep mask
3. Get a massage and/or go to a spa. When I used to wear natty clothes to work, I'd go to the man salon and get the hands and feet done. That stuff will make you faster.
4. Your easy chair and a bag full of slow, boring movies
5. Go to bed early and bore yourself to sleep with a lame book
6. Monitor your resting heart rate and get it low. The lower it is, the more you're resting (more parasympathetic, less sympathetic). Work on it.
7. Awful New Age music
8. Deep breathing
9. Sensory deprivation chambers
10. Drugs

I think we can dispense with the other superflous recommendations.

Don't you have 2 good races in your neck of the woods this weekend ?? I was thinking of doing them, but I decided not to.

instead of driving 90 mins. and paying a $30 entry fee to crash 20 mins. into the race, it's simpler to just ride off the road into a ditch here in Chester.

The Asian food store around the block sells raw kava, something I'd perused as part of a Polynesian studies course ages ago but had never gotten around to trying. Well, I checked it out last Friday and I was chill as the Dalai Lama hovering on a fluffy white cloud. The quality of my sleep seemingly improved immensely and the next day was awesome, fully restored.

There are other supplements that do the job better, I'm sure, but this is legal, mild and seems to have the global chill out effects that I dig.

You are entitled to your opinion, however Pcad takes this with a massive grain of salt and cheerfully advises you to go F yourself and those idiot friggin Braves too. If you are not amused by Pcad you are truly one miserable SOB, and you deserve yourself.

I am happy to report that I did feel spunkier this weekend after two rest days last week and backing off on the training a bit. Good outing on the weekly racer training 50 miler, 6th over the final climb vs. shelled @ mile 45 the previous week. Somewhat slower ride, weaker field this week, but whatever. It's always fast, so 'slower' is a relative description. Beats getting blown out the back door. Actually about 35 of 50 participants WERE dropped, so I was faster than those guys.

I will endeavor to rest more in the future. My aching legs need a break.
